I made a great discovery the other day thanks to a friend who was in the aviation business. It's called ACF-50 The product is a light lubricant and kills corrosion on contact. It is safe for just about anything on your motorcycle. "I would just keep it off the tires for obvious reasons" I bought some at a store called Gas Pro it was a little expensive at $13.00 per can but if you like a pristine bike it is well worth it. This stuff is amazing. I sprayed it on the engine, radiator, shock and linkage, frame, throttle and clutch cables, foot controls etc etc. All I can say is Wow I wish I had this stuff from day one. After wiping down the bike it looks like new. If you get a chance check this stuff out it really works well. Here is a link to the web page for more info on the product. http://www.learchem.com/Aviation.htm

Won't carb cleaner do the same job?

Carb cleaner will damage Paint, Plastic, Rubber seals on electrical connections, Anodized Coatings among other things. Also it's not a protectant or a lubricant. And unless everything that was sprayed with carb cleaner is not treated with some type of lube after using it will be prone to oxidize and corrode.
