what's the best way to get there? i'm coming from the philadelphia area.
Route A - from philly 95 south, hit DC, east on I-66 (rt 55), I-81 south, then I-40 south, then onto local roads to fontana
or...
Route B - from philly I-95 south, I-85 south, I-40 west, then onto local roads to fontana.
The mileage appears to be roughly the same. I'm inclined to go with Route B because I think the interstate will be less hilly and easier on the truck's fuel economy. I'm leaving about 9PM so traffic should not be an issue with either route.
What's the best route from the Northeast Philadelphia region? Thanks!

Why not take I-95 South, I-495 South, I-66 West, I-81 South all the way to Knoxville... seems to be a more direct route.

Depending on what time u leave "I-95 South, I-495 South, I-66 West, I-81 South " is the fastest way except for during the day at any point. When I use to tow to harrisonburg, va I would take the turnpike to carlisle, then get on 81 south. Traffic isn't really a factor with this route, it's mostly truckers and not morons in cages.
