Fellas,
I have a stock 04 R1 and I would like to get your insight on first gear clutch ups. I want to do slower speed wheelies, (like start pulling it up at 30-35mph) but it seems to be very difficult to do it on this bike to say the least, no matter if I clutch it up in second or power it up in first. I've been playing around a little bit with first gear clutch-ups (I give the clutch a little slip and give it a LITTLE gas at the same time) and clutching it up in first seems to be the only way to do a slower speed wheelie without having to use a ton of throttle or WOT. I would like to get as much insight as I can before I go any further, so I appreciate any advice you may have.
Thanks!

are you sitting down or standing up? both feet on front pegs, or one foot back, one foot up covering rear brake? im not the best or even close, but i can slow them down (from second or first gear) to someone running next to me, once in the balance point, i just use body position and some back brake
i am a little scary on giving advice on wheelies, cause i have seen friends take others advice and seriously hurt themselves...most of the time it is about confidence and using a little back brake, if i have made any sense

I'm sitting in a neutral position with both feet on the rider pegs.

sitting down it is harder for me to pick it up at a slower speed, without higher rpm, i am usually going at a pretty good speed when it comes up, then i slow it down after im in the air, with balance and rear brake...
not telling you to do this , but most of the time, when i want to pick it up slower, i am standing up, in second gear, left foot rear pass. peg, right foot covering rear brake and i use rear brake to catch it at balance point...this actually made the bike come up alot easier without so much rpm...this actually took a long time for me to even attempt (on this bike) and I had a lot of close calls and a different stunt bike dedicated to that type of behavior...i dont do too many wheelies on this bike (but occasionally i cant resist), really enjoy the bikes characteristics (so gearing it up and all that it out the question) to really have good control at slower speeds, ive found it to be easier with gearing

they have a nice section on wheelies in this section of this forum (the stunters corner), sounds like you already know how to wheelie though, you just want to do it slower
