xdonniedarkox 07-11-2006, 08:43 PM Got it from Simonfromkobe.
2 days after I paid for it.
FF4 R. Carbon; lighter then other builds. Very good quality from my review so far. Much better then the Vemar I bought a while back.
Helmet is remarkably light... My Vemar is heavy in comparison and that helemt is far lighter then all my other ones. Fit is tight. Smaller then other labels.
The tear off's are cool. Long rides with 300+ miles worth of bug shit on your visor, makes em make sense.

whatthe?? 07-11-2006, 11:31 PM Hey guys, new around here but I couldn't help and reply to this one. I got an OGK about four years ago and I love mine. I have owned AGV's, HJC's, Bell's and tried out a few Shoeis and Arais. I have never worn a helmet that moves as much air inside as I have the OGK. I have tried to convert as many people as I can, but noone seems to listen. The ol' "Ain't never heard of 'em, ain't gonna try 'em." I have the FF3 and I got it from the OGK shop in England. I paid roughly $400 USD when I got it and received it around three days after I paid, if memory serves correct. It is super light for a composite and had the BSA gold seal. I love it except for the lense that came with it is not fog proof. Other than that, I can't recommend OGK's highly enough. Don't know if I can say where, but they have the Doug Polen models on closeout for $199 somewhere. Let me know if I can give out the info here or if you need to PM me and I'll let you know. I got mine autographed by E-Boz and Kurtis Roberts at Barber in '03.
xdonniedarkox 07-11-2006, 11:58 PM I emailed Simon expect a PM R(aider)1... we should go ride sometime.

after using my OGK FF4 for over a year, it is by far my favorite of all the lids I've owned, over & above both Shoei & Arai I've owned :bow

R(aider)1 07-19-2006, 09:25 PM Review:
Got a chance to ride around today Since it is "National Ride to Work Day" I took advantage and decided to test out the OGK Carbon Astral.
All I can say is WOW…just for reference I have owned many helmets in my day but this by far stands out as one of the best I’ve owned. Just so you know I currently own an Arai RX-7 Corsair (Edward replica) and a Shoei X-11 (TC-5) and if few cheapos like HJC and ICON.
The helmet is amazingly light (obviously – CF) but it struck my how light it was when I purposely shook my head with my helmet on. There wasn't any resistance or “snap back” when I move my helmet quickly from side to side.
The Ventilation is very good, but with good ventilation comes noise (and it is noisy). This is not a problem for me because I usually ride with Shure E3c headphones or earplugs. The OGK has four ventilation openings, one on the chin, one on the forehead and two on top (along with two exit vents in the back like Arai). All the vents are adjustable (open or close for the chin and forehead) and the top vents has multiple levels of adjustment for air flow.
The Shield tear-offs seem like a good idea. The bad thing is that it only comes with one tear-off. I immediately ordered some more tear-offs from http://ogk-shop.com/ (the clear comes in a 5 tears/pack, tinted 3 tears/pack). The silver tear-offs seem like the ideal choice (stock tear-off) it have sufficient tinting for the day while giving you plenty of visibility at night.
The interior is very plush, very “Arai-ish”. Even the chin strap is plush padded (nice). The helmet seems to run a bit small (I wear a Large in Shoei, Med. for Arai). I chose Large in OGK to be in the safe side, which was a good thing because I don’t think I could fit my melon in a Medium OGK.
The shield is trick to remove and install. But then again I really haven’t practiced removing is a lot. It’s similar to the Arai system, with the side pods and the release mechanism. I personally prefer the Shoei visor removal/installation system the best (way easier than Arai and OGK).
Summary:
Positives:
Carbon Fiber :dollar
Super light:yesnod
Very Plush:boobies
Very Comfortable :makeout
Tear-offs good idea :thumbup
Good Ventilation :)
Negatives:
Arai-like visor system (takes practice)
Noisy (not problem, use ear plugs)
Replacement parts available but difficult to come by locally (US)
Only one tear-off stock (no problem, order more $12-$15)
Runs small (some people disagree with this)
xdonniedarkox 07-19-2006, 09:49 PM Great write up bro....
Very astute perspective. I agree on all fronts, except, I think the padding is rather spartan, and minimalist. To say it is tight is generous....
In other news, STM installed. Chassis updates done....:D :rock
New thread and pics soon-
I cant believe how fooking light the OGK helmet is. Stoopid light.

You're right the padding is not as thick as Arai or Shoei...by "plush" I was mostly refering to the material and how nice it felt on my fat melon... :lol
STM eh? very nice...can't wait for the pics.
G-primo 07-21-2006, 08:20 PM I would have to agree with all that was said...But mine is up for sale...
