Hey all. I'm sure you all remember me. Kid on the green kawi.
Well..

So I ended up with an sv.
started reading about sport touring and getting into it.
well what do you know, guess what I found:
http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/showthread.php?t=86659
the guy was on his long trip as we were there.
take a look at these 3 videos that he got captured. in the first, southern and the tall awesome dude from DC blow by them like they're riding.... well... cruisers haha!
Dragon Run part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz3MhEWk-1Y)
Southern118 07-15-2006, 09:49 PM that is pretty cool to find soemthing like that
Skanky 07-15-2006, 11:10 PM Damn Kawi-boy. Very sorry to hear about your slapper. That wreck mustve knocked you silly since you decided to get an SV afterwards. Dude, go see a doctor!

Not to be a dick but the equation goes: rider error=tank-slapper.

not always man. the new r6 has tankslappers with just alittle extra throttle over a bump. some of them can be enduced by the rider. depends on teh situation.
yea sorry to hear about the bike hope you make it to the r1 convention next year on the sv.

While I haven't ridden it, I find it hard to believe that a bike with 24* rake and 3.8" of trail would tank slap without improper bar input.
streetjester 07-16-2006, 08:45 AM I hwae you on the tank slapper. 06 r6 is a tank slapping bitch. I had it slap me at over a 100mph. I thought i was gone. but i just pulled in the clutch and bam it was gone.
These are 2 shots of the tankslapper inducing device

didnt knock me silly. Next year, I'd like to RIDE to the dragon. I'm getting tired of not being able to do everything i wanted with a supersport, and to be honest this sv is everything i've ever wanted out of a bike. the twin is something i'll never stray from again, and with the 1000 i got, i'm on par with the numbers i had on the kawi.
not to mention full coverage for the kawi was *cough* $4300 a year.. which i couldnt afford, and so i got ***** jacked in the sh*t box.
sv1000 it is
Skanky 07-16-2006, 11:01 AM Maybe the photos don't show the true geometry of that dip in the road, but from what I can tell, they don't look all that bad. That Kawasaki must be one unstable bike to induce a slapper over that part of the road. How fast were you going?

I was going 80. that crack is about 5 inches deep for reference
svtlightning 07-18-2006, 09:22 PM Not to be a dick....but why did not just move into the other lane? or pick a different line?
if that was a 5" dip, then i have the biggest #$%^ in the world

well sir, you are a dick :p
I didnt see it in time, and i wasnt really expecting a bump that was going to dismount me.
it was 11:45, i was coming back from a full 8 hours of highway riding back from cedar point, it was raining, and the hail had just begun.
my mind was busy with other things....
Wheat 07-18-2006, 10:54 PM That sucks Kawi Boy!!!! :(
Finsl 07-19-2006, 10:19 AM In his defense, the Kawi 636 IS very prone to tankslapping incidents. I did 1 trackday without one at VIR and damn near highsided when I rolled over the rumble strips coming out of T-4 (I think??) North Course. And yes, this is common practice for that turn. Said F@#ck this and IMMEDIATELY ordered a steering damper the next day.
LE351 07-19-2006, 01:55 PM What you are showing in the picture is a very common scene here in PA. We have bridges, railroad crossings and interstates have these broken slabs or dropoffs in many areas, and I have not heard of anyone getting a tankslapper from just riding straight through one. Did you try to swerve while in the middle of it? Something is just not adding up here. From the picture, looks like you woudl have hit the lowest point, and the slab then raises back up. :dunno
It would be nice to introduce yourself also--you were at the convention the entire week, road with us, ate with us, posted n your computer at the villege with us, but yet you never made any attempt to talk to anyone there. But then again, you do have all those pictures you took of your bike.
Glad your not hurt--that is main thing. Hopefully you will make it to the convention next year, maybe we will know your name by then.
:hellobye
Southern118 07-19-2006, 03:51 PM he did talk marty honestly he even helped us go pick up kendalls bike when it broke down and took the time to take it to wheelers

Got to disagree there. I rode one at Barber at a very fast pace. That bike is REALLY stable and not prone to shake the head.
GPD270 07-19-2006, 11:39 PM Sorry about your wreck man.... Glad your Ok!!!!

I LOVE this bike and I'm not saying it is not stable, it is extremely stable, but having 8K miles in the seat on this bike, I would still say it is more prone to headshake than others. And no, in my opinion I do not use the damper as a crutch on this bike (ie: I know how to ride it).:beer

Yeah thanks, I realize that. :hellobye
Not all tracks are nice and smooth. That bump wasn't the cause of the headshake. The bumb caused that rider to tighten his grip on the bars and THAT caused the headshake. :fact
