I'm picking up a brand new bike in a week. Is there any mechanical reason to wait until after the break-in period to replace the stock pipe with a slip-on or can I go ahead and do this right away?

i don't think it will be a problem. i have done it in the past and i know of several people who have changed the exhaust before break in with no problems at all. what kind are you getting?? what bike and exhaust??

Go ahead and put your exhaust on. I put a full system on mine with 22 miles on the clock.

I'm replacing my totalled '02 R1 with either another '02 or an '03. I will get the Akrapovic carbon slip-on again. I like the sound and the look.

I'm just waiting tohear back from the total loss adjuster before I commit on the new bike. If I miss the '02 then I will wait for the '03. I'm not in a big hurry since I have to wait a couple/three weeks before the doc gives me the ok to ride again.

I put my slip-on when I had less than 800 miles. No problems.....It seemed like I was invisable with the stock exhaust on. Now that people can hear me, even though sometings they still don't see me, at least they have an idea someone's near by.

how did you total your R1 if you dont sharing.

most silver 02 R1's are pretty much sold out, i saw one dealer in bay area still have one blue one, but thats about it. most R1's in general 2002 are gone. especially the silver one.

the 03 versions last i heard have not been announced when they will be released from yamaha, but it seems to range from end of year to feburary or march next year. so it may be a little wait for 03 R1's.

good luck

I put my slip on right away. It won't hurt anything

Thanks I will need it, they are getting scarce. I know of a dealer who has a couple left. I hope to hear from insurance and get one very soon.

My accident. I was riding with a friend. We were in a corner doing ~40 MPH when his front end washed out. As I steered to go around his sliding bike, it hit the guard rail and came at me like a projectile. The next thing I remember they were scraping me off the pavement. Both bikes were totalled. My friend was lucky to get away with a few scrapes. I recieved a very light fracture to the hip.

"very light fracture to the hip."

that is really funny to me....there really isn't any fracture...especially to my hip that i would consider "very light"...it is not a vase...it your hip!

North Hollywood Yamaha had two brand new Silver R1s on wednesday...i did 11,000 otd two sundays ago. Simi Valley has two as well...or did.

Sorry to hear about your hip and bike.

Thanks. My fracture was small enough to allow me to leave the next day on crutches. Most hip fractures require an operation and require long healing and rehabilitation times. This is not to say that I am not in immense pain, but I think I got off pretty easy, as hip injuries go.

Slimm: This is totally not related to this thread.. But I saw that pic on your avatar... Do you watch Dragonball Z

Yeah, I like Animee. I don't watch every episode but of dbz but I check in with it ocaissionally - I guess I like the characters more than the show. Now I have seen every episode of Cowboy Bebop - I really like that show. Avatar was a toss up between Goku, Piccolo and Spike from Cowboy Bebop.

I have an '03 On order - expected delivery is early/middle January. I'm in Upstate NY - if it doesn't come in until March I won't care too much :)

Unless it's like 70 degress all of February but I doubt that :)

Slimm: Did you watch the epidsodes of Freeza VS Goku? So how did freeza loose?

Slimm

I watched a few of those. It seems to me that Freeza battled those guys, was defated and then came back in a new improved form for another round of episodes. I assume you are referring to the second set where Freeza staged a televised championship of sorts. The problem with DBZ is these battles rage for many episodes and I am too busy to watch them all. I heard from my son that he got nailed by his own energy blade when Goku moved out of the way just before it hit him and it chopped Freeza in two and then Namic exploded.

Hey by the way.. Get a used R1... Full Hindle from BDE or Arata... Velocity and a proven pressurized RAMBOX.. and Polish your heads and valves...( Well thats What I would do next time.... )
