i'm hoping this is minor :(

engine is making this ticking/rattling sound from the left side. it's not consistent and it comes and goes at idle. when in motion i hear it at cruise @ 2500-3000rpm. accelerating/decelerating i don't hear it at all. i've had no loss in power, nor do i see any oil consumption... ne1?

getting worried! :(

Try using search feature, look for ticking you'll find lots to read. From what I've heard this is normal.

Benjamin, that's a characteristic of almost every R1 that I've seen since 2000. My '99 and several '99/'98's that my friends owned did not have this problem. My '02 ticks on ocassion. I suspect that since Yamaha switched over to hollow camshafts in 2000, the valve train got a tad noisier. I would not worry about it. If it really gets on your nerves, get an exhaust system, that should mask that worrisome noise! :thumbup

i have an akrapovic slip on, and it's not loud enough to drown it out (it's that loud) :confused:

if this sound is supposed to be normal... what is it supposed to sound like when it does go bad?:eek:

Mine does it to and has since about 25 miles and now it's at 18,000 and I can hear it over the Akra every now and again. Some tick louder than others and I've even heard a couple that didn't.
