Hi everybody !
Hello to all of you from BandyR1.
I will soon be a happy R1 owner (silver 2003 model. Men, this particular make and color has been exciting me since practically its birth time) but, recently, when I got to test drive one that belongs to a friend of nine, I fell really in love with her. (Previous bike was ZX12r 2001) I am sure I will enjoy R1 much more in corners since it is safer and more predictable and stabler than the ZX12 don't you agree ? That's what I understood after a test-drive on my friend's R1.
I never got to enjoy cornering on the ZX12, never felt really safe and confident on this bike.
Although I must admit it has a brilliant engine, delivering brutal power and arm-stretching acceleration (It is the main reason I bought it). I liked its "voluptuous" shape and big dimensions providing plenty of room to fit me in (6+ foot height and 170lbs weight) but the thing is...
...I enjoy corners, I enjoy supersport driving mostly and as it turned out, I am not a terminal velocity fan... (ZX12 does well on the high speed area, feeling rock stable even at speeds near the third hundred of kmh and is possibly one of the best right ? Let's be honest)
But what I really want is not being able to rocket in warp speeds, but rather a safe and enjoyable banking ability from a predictable and honest bike that does in corners exactly what you tell it to, without making your heart race from agony. I feel that ZX12 is not designed to shine in corners, due to its weight and length, no matter what suspension-related and other settings you make to it, correct me if I am wrong... To make long story short, I never got to really enjoy my big Kawa, although I tried for about 4 years to get used to it...
That is why the Idea about its replacement was eventually starting to be seriously considered...
That's why, I believe I did the right thing ! Didn't I ?
I would really appreciate some opinions and/or advice regarding this transition of mine from you guys If you like to give it .
Well, that's about it for now,
Greetings to all of you, from a proud new R1 owner & forum new member !...
Pleased to be here, really...

Heres a little advice...
You'll get alot more replies if you keep it short and sweet.
Your getting a great bike. I went from a 01 GSXR 1000 to my 02 R1 and I Love it! Its such a fine tuned machine, the power delivery is so much smoother. Alot more rider friendly for the street. Especialy coming off the Kawi. Those are like tanks compared to the Yamaha.
Good luck and post up some pics....

Congrats! I went from an extremly heavy 97 ZX9 and love the R1. Feels like a 600 in the corners compared to the heavier model ZX's.

Hi, Yearn2learn I had a 96 ZX9r too which I traded in 2001 for the 12. yes pretty heavy bike but much "easier" on the street than the 12 don't you think ? Brilliant motor too, for its class.
slightly modded
