Hey Whats going on guys? This winter I'm going crazy with mods to my 99 and I want to swap out my rear shock. My question is will a shock from a 04-06 fit on my bike and would it be a good CHEEP upgrade to make? Any input you guys have would be great. I'm looking to go the cheep route and I think I can find a good one on ebay for a good low price. I have the orignal one on right now and its pretty much shot :boom Thanks AJ

Done it. It will fit if you modified your swing a little bit. I recommend that mod.

An '02-'03 shock would be a great improvement & drop straight in. I have often thought of doing this myself.

On a '00 R1 I'm running an '02 swingarm and breaksetup with an '04 shock. There was nothing tricky to it and the parts were bought off eBay for less than $200 total. Cost; $50 for the swingarm $50 for rear breaksetup $50 shock shipping on each

Thanks Guys. Hey NPN. When you say slightly mod the swingarm what would I have to do? AJ

an 02-03 shock is a direct fir for the 98-01 bikes. You must trim the bracing to fit a 04-05 shock as it will touch when compressed.
