I just got this bike and runs good and everything works fine....but i was putting new plugs in and i noticed that on both sides of the carbs there are brass nipples that look like they shoud have a hose atached to them...also by the coils there are PCV looking thing that have nothing on the end of them i was wondering if someone can help with thins question. Also what kind of plug should i use (money is not a problem want the best). Also last thing is that this bike was made in canada and the speedo is in KMH if i get a american speedo can i just plug it in or is everything different? Thanks in advance. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/Fc_bryan/rightsideofcarbmissinghose.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/Fc_bryan/leftsidecarbmissinghose.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/Fc_bryan/rightsidePCVmissingend.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/Fc_bryan/leftsidecarbmissinghose.jpg

pvc lookin one needs /or goes to the bottom of the air box! the larger bass tubes are vent air ways for the slides.you could take some tubing and run them/it down just behind the carbs and leave open.

but the air box has no nipples on that side they go under the coil pack mounting plate it look like the should be atached together or something....and the vent one for the slide do they need a hose or they stay open? if anyone has pics that would be awsome also.

On my UK '98 the brass nipples (One on either end of carb bank) have been open and nothing on them from new. Its the same with the PVC things, been as in pictures from new, not connected to anything or to each other. In fact I asked the same question about the brass nipples on this Forum.

Nothing connected to brass tube is normal. Don't worry about it. 2. Nothing connected to PVC tube is normal. Don't worry about it. 3. I believe you can switch from Kilometers to Miles by pressing the "select" button for at least 2 seconds. Not sure if this is an option on Canadian bikes though. Mark 99 R1

As for the plugs, I'd recommend NGK CR9E's or if you want them to last longer, CR9EIX's. They're the iridium version. NGK quote all kinds of great things for the iridium plugs. Easier starting, better fuel consumption, faster acceleration etc. You'd be hard pushed to notice all these differences but they will last longer.

My 2000 has nothing connected to the brass tubes or the pcv looking ones. As far as I could tell by looking at the vacumme routing diagram this was correct

I bought my bike used in cali, it is a cali model with the charcoal canister and stuff. There is a little info in this thread, I was asking about some other vacuum tubes for my bike. Still don't know if they go anywhere! http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180675

this IS the correct answer as some have stated.... none have hoses connected to them!:fact. as for plugs i would recommend the ngk cr9-ek... iv'e tried them all including irridiums and the best advice i can give is change any plug regularly(sp). the ek's have a dual earth strap (sometimes called electrode).:thumbup

ngk cr9EK is the plug you want, just say no to irridium.

The brass vacuum looking thing are (carb warmers) There is a hose fron the radiator to the carbs the runs antifreeze around the carbs. This is for the people that ride in the 20's-30's temps, don't worry about um. The nipple thing might go to the air injection thing that connects on top of each exhaust port, not needed. Exup is a little box with 2 cables comming from it going to the exhause(needed)<-- I think, it has a power lead,i think 2 wires.
