Is there any ways to find out if an odometer has been switched out? I'm looking at a bike with only 1200 miles. And due to the price I am skeptical of it. It may just be a good deal but you know how that goes... A report on the Vin said that about a year ago from December 12 2006 It had 10 miles on it. Also it(carfax) said the bike was in Grand Rapids Michigan were a Service Contract was issued? The bike is now in Long Island New york. Thats 10 hours from where it was a year ago not a big deal but im curious about it.. I'm just trying to figure out if this bike is legit.....

First is it 10 miles after Dec 12 2006 or Dec 12 2005???? What year is the bike??? Is he the first owner? The 12 miles on it could be when the bike was out of the dealership and ridden before the owner reported actual miles on the bike as 12 Most people usually trailer the bike between Michigan and NY...well, most 1200 miles for an 05 bike is reasonable. But go see the bike and use your judgement. Good luck!!!

this is the bike I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3APIC&viewitem=&item=130060476523&rd=1,1 (I havn't yet paid for it) Saturday I go to look at it and buy it Im just very skeptical because of the price. He said his company recieved the bike from a client and the bike is in his companies name. The bike comes as is... no Seat cover and, also I dont think there are any rear footpegs on it from the picture.....

This client person looks like someone who did not really know how to ride a liter bike. The bike was obviously dropped...From the looks of it...twice. If it was "gently dropped" its highly unlikely to have minor damages on both the left and right side. The miles could be correct.Go look at it and see what the deal is with this whole company thingee...Dude, if you are not comfortable with it walk away... There are better bikes than that one that forum members are selling for a bit more.. On a side note I hope this is NOT your first bike

no way to get it from bike. he could just swap out dash. go to your yamaha dealer with VIN number. they can pull up mileage on it if its had any warranty work done like TPS or anything else. it might help.

There are better bikes than that one that forum members are selling for a bit more.. On a side note I hope this is NOT your first bike Yea I know I was going to buy a better bike for 1k more but honestly I dont have the money. This price is the most I can afford with out leaving me with $0 dollars to my name. (I'm not a big finance guy) No it wouldn't be my first bike I've ridden a 1998 GSXR 750 for the last 3 years. I know that an R1 would be a very large increase in power though.. But with the mileage on this bike I dont think I can find a better deal. The scratches don't bother me because I can do body work and my dad runs a body shop so It would cost me the cost of paint to fix the scratches and crack.

Also something to keep in mind, it isn't hard at all to unplug your dash, it won't register any mileage that has been racked up. Something else to keep in mind, he could have swapped for an aftermarket dash unit, especially if it was a track bike. I can't tell from pics, but a good place to start is check and see if any of the vital bolts on the bike have been drilled for safety wire i.e. brake caliper bolts, oil drain plug etc. Even if the mileage is off and there isn't any other damage except for the cosmetic stuff, it's still a great deal.

see how the brake discs look, it's usually a guide to higher mileage.:thumbup

Sorry to bring this up but can you check motorcycles on carfax ??? I have seen there (Carfax) that it is not possible ? Or there is bike only (Carfax) site ?? Also how serious must be the damage so a bike is totaled Salvage title. I just buyed one that is Salvage title but look in good shape only fairings are bad and little bent on the front fork + cluch cover cracked ??? I start to think that it was in much poor shape that's not good at all

I just did a normal carfax with my bike vin. Usually I think when a bike is considered more expensive to repair than a little more than half its value its considered totaled. You may have just lucked out, but also the frame might be bent which would put your bike in the totaled category. I'm not too certain on all this its just info that I've read.

Hmmm now Carfax work ok ??? Is there a difference between totaled and salvage title. My title is salvage and the owner is insurance company. About the damege I hope the frame is OK not a single scrach on it, will check. As soon as I take some photos I will post them who knows maybe the owner is here :) I want to know what he did to it and why !! :)

The mileage readout is from the ECU, not the Odometer. Even if you switch it, you still get the same numbers for total mileage.

No the mileage is in the Odometer. there is EEPROM chip in it that hold the mileage. It's also possible to reprogram it. My bike is 800 miles on the speedo on the title is 3100 miles :) search for: mileage fraud post !!
