I have a 01 FZ1 same motor as a 01 R1. The problem is that the clutch is grabby,by grabby i mean that as your setting at a light in gear and rev it i feel the bike wanting to pull.
I know its the clutch and that some of the disks OR steals or worped. I remember the the R1's had this problem but i dont remember what the fix was.
I dont really have the money to through at it.Has anyone had this problem and could point me as to which one to replace first

It sounds more like the clutch isn't fully disengaging. I had that problem before. When I would rev it, it would try to pull the same as yours. I just adjusted the cable.

I have make alot of adjustment and still the same. I've had the clutchs out and looked at them all and knocked any high spot with sanding wheel.:scared

If you sand on the plates, you need to place the sandpaper on a piece of glass to make sure that you are sanding it level.
Seriously though, is it happening after you have ridden for awhile. I have it happen once the clutch heats up (it swells especially after I drag race) but it was still due to the clutch not disengaging all the way.
Hi
Have you tried with another oils? One way is to give some first aid for those steel plates with file. Make some scrathes all over the plates. That sounds bit brutal but actually works for while.

you cant sand them with air/electric sander...it will only hurt them. best way is by hand on piece of glass, using some 500-800 grit sandpaper. you will see high or low spots. if you see them.. its pretty much time for new plate. really sanding is only to remove glazing and see if they are warped. also are you running the stock little springs in back of basket. there are 2 little cicle springs that go into hub first before any clutch plates. they do have a specific direction they go in. one side should say OUT on it. then you have smaller clutch fiber that goes in after them. its narrower to allow springs to run in hub. this could cause the grabness as well. if you cant figure it out, then remove these 2 springs and the smaller fiber plate and run regular plate in there place. they serve as damping so clutch doesnt get much shock. its suppose to prevent chatter, but i take them out and always have for dragracing.

You see i just bought this bike and thought it might be a sinple adjustment. I had the clutch out saw the little spring plates in the back and put them back with the bevel up agenced the basket. It looks like someone elso has been in there so im just trying to do all i can before i buy new steals.

Hi.
I own an FZ-1, too - a 2003 model which is identical to yours except for color.
My bike currently has 25,000 miles on it.
Original clutch, too.
I'll tell you that the clutch won't drag a bit when it's put together properly with parts that ain't been f'ed with.
Sounds like you're on the right track with buying new plates, springs, and anything else in there that's questionable and/or may have been molested by Jack the Butcher.
By the way:
Although the 2001 FZ-1 engines are very much like the 2001 R1 engine, there are some key differences, the clutch being one of them (it doesn't use the same parts).

warped steel plates will baike the bike lurch forward when revved in gear with the clutch lever pulled in. It will also make it more difficult to find neutral.
only fix for warped steel plates is replacement.

thanks guys,
I'm starting to figure out the different parts between FZ1 & R1
I pretty much thought it was the steals
