i've been trying for days to get my 04 r1 into diagnostic mode. I'm doing exactly what it says in the service manual at page7.8. Does anyone have any ideas ?

You have to ground an ECU wire before you do it...there is a huge thread about this for 02 and 03, but in the thread they tell you which wire to ground on the 04+ in the later posts

Turn off the main switch and engine stop swith. Disconnect the Fuel wire harness connector. While simutaneousley pressing and holding the reset and select buttons, turn the main switch on. The Meter should read "Diag" mode after 8 seconds.

there is wire from ECU that you can ground..but its only to get it in diag mode so you can adjust CO levels.. you should be able to get into regular Diag mode.. make sure you disconnect plugs on tank... Why are you going into Diag mode?? to adjust TPS? or something else?? here is thread.. it started out as thread for 02-03 models and 04 and up models is few pages into it. http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62758&highlight=adjust+diag+mode

The bike won't start, thats my problem. In the U.K. we've got an immobiliser built into the ECU, which is a real pain if it goes wrong. I removed and re-fitted the ecu last week and can't get the bike to start now. I've tried removing the plugs from the tank and doing exactly what it says in the manual, but still no luck ! I don't know, what next ?

I am not talking about CO. The reason I ask is, when I get mine is diag mode the first screen is "do 1" which measures or shows the throttle open percentage. Mine reads 16 at throttle closed and 95 at full throttle. I read somewhere that the parameters for this check are 15-18 throttle closed and 97-100 at full throttle position, shouldn't mine at least read 97 at full throttle? My understanding is that this sends a signal to the stock ECU to load that fuel air program map for the given percentage of throttle opening, so... if mine is only reading 95% when I crack the throttle wide open am I getting ripped off for 5%.. Thanks for your help in advance.

I guess no one knows...:dundun: The process has been outlined exactly. The problem seems to be with your bike.

as long as throttle value is between 15-18 and 95-100 you are in the right descrepancies
