Gearbox question! Does anyone know?

I got an 03 R1 and once again ive killed the gearbox, but all i can seem to find is 00/01 gearboxes, im pretty sure that they are the same but the ratios are different, so basically does anyone know for sure if a 00/01 gearbox will fit in an 03 engine? Cheers in advance! Loon :thumbup

it will. not sure differences in ratios.. thought there were same.. you might check on that on yamahas website or microfiche... if they are different, then yes they will fit..but make sure you use all parts from 00/01.. meaning shift forks, shift drum, input and output shafts...basically the whole thing. are you looking at new parts or used parts?? how bad is yours?? is it just 2nd? might be cheaper just to fix yours than go thru all that trouble of trying to put something in different.

Up to 2003 all internal gear ratios were the exactly same apart from first gear for the '98-'99 R1's

You were right, i was looking at the specs and its only first gear that is different, its 4th gear ive killed, i done a really bad shift while wheelying from 3rd to 4th, but had a loose chain, so its smashed the cogs. Considered just buying replacement gears from dealer but i got a quote on them last time and they are not cheap on they're own, but ive managed to get a full gear box for £130. So fingers crossed should have a working R1 before spring!!!!! Cheers guys!!!!! :rock
