What do you guys think of r1-forum "squadron" insignia?

Different regions could have their own symbol/slogan. There could be several USA Squadrons--Northwest, CA, Southwest, Midwest, South, Northeast and SouthEast, and then of course squadrons for each country. Here is a sample I whipped up for the Northwest squadron, as well as a few other examples. I was thinking these could be relatively small (about 3" diameter). So what do you guys think?

I was thinking it would be cool for the Vegas Meet... get hooked up with all the rest of the guys in your "squadron." C'mon Sundowners, I thought YOU at least would have something to say about this! I would be happy to design the basic templates, and then would post the Illustrator EPS file so that people could localize their sticker. I checked into some pricing for a four-color sticker, and it would run somewhere around $25 for a one-off print. If each "squadron" printed out a bunch at a time, it would probably be a lot less. To get a good price, though, you'd probably be cutting them out yourself. Also, foil backgrounds or anything like that would cost more.

I think it would look sweet, also it would be nice if you were walking around a swap meet/bike show/bikeweek and saw one of those you could leave them a note or something, I think it would rock.

Hey cool, now we can be a R1 Gang!! Acutally I think it's cool. We could also see about what the printing cost is for doing it on a Ink Jet as a lot of model's IE Remote controal guys do insignia printing at home instead of purchasing them.

Insignia would be awesome:jump It would also be sweet to get some patches made for jackets. I wish I was better with computers, I would love to design one for the NE Squadron! After my track day crash, I was thinking of painting my GSXR to resemble a F-8 from the VF-111. I know, It's not an R-1 but It still would be sweet! B

Sounds like a kewl idea but the first two insignias look like the Wolf is blow'n chunks because of the Yam logo behind it.

looks pretty bad-ass!! some decals of that would be nice!! maybe about 3"-4" in diameter.. I would not mind putting that on my bike.. however I live in the Midwest so I would need something that says MW-01 at the bottom or something..

If people are really interested, I will put some artwork together for you guys and then post the files up, so that you can have them printed any way you want. Should be able to use the same files to have patches made. It would be cool to have R1 Forum shoulder patches. I think I'd do a different design for that which would be standardized. So I'd need: 1) Regions interested in squadrons (NW for Northwest USA, UK for the UK, etc.) 2) What artwork would you want represented (I personally like the Wolfpack insignia from VF-01, unless any of you other NW guys object). 3) Do you want the squadron name on the sticker.

I like the idea of voting for the region embelem. I am not artistic so I'm not drawing but I would like to see a few to cast my vote on.

what about removing the logo from the background and replacing the little +'s with the logo? than each sect would have the middle to do its thing with?

I'll ge using Illustrator, so you can make the artwork as large or small as you want, without sacrificing quality. Simpler designs are better, as you will be able to identify them from further off. I think it would be fine for the patches to be different shapes, round, diamond, etc. As long as it said r-1 forum.... Well, I'll need a list of all the people who are interested, and where you live. I can then break things into regions, assign the codes, and then submit it to each squadron for approval. Then individual squadrons can have contests or whatever. I'd be happy to help with the design/cleanup. Just PM me or post here if you're in.

this is a kick ass idea.....when you guys start drawing, keep in mind that the more intricate the decal, the more expensive it is. keep it simple and bold. look at some military logos....there are some pretty good ideas there.

You have to be part of the forum for 3 months or so, just so we don't get random people that don't give a shit about the forum with symbols on their bikes. I don't know, just thinking out loud.

Awesome Idea, Southern Cali / AZ Squadron should be either The Black Knights or Black Sheep Squadron Both VMF squadrons from the area (although the Knights have been decommissioned) No_6, can you do up some sampe logos for us? All Other SoCal and AZ riders, what do you think?

Okay, here's the deal. I will make some templates of basic shapes (round, rectangle, diamond). It is up to each squadron to select their name and insignia. Once you have determined what you want, you can submit it to me, and I will clean it up and make it presentable. I will design an overall 'club' patch. I figure it would just say "www.R1-Forum.com." Any other ideas? Each squadron should get together and vote for a squadron leader (or I can pick one). Then you guys can determine who is in, and who isn't. Each squadron will be responsible for having their own stuff printed up. Also, you can determine your own criterion for who gets let in or not. I do like the idea that they should have been a member for at least a few months. They don't have to have a lot of posts or anything. I'd also say an age requirement of 21 or older. ALSO, minimum of 5 members to qualify for squadron status (except for countries with small forum memberships, like Sweden, Germany, etc). OR: we can make the designs available, and sell the stuff online, with the proceeds going to support the forum. So: hats, tee-shirts, stickers, patches, coffee cups, etc. As you can see, so far we have a good representation from the South US and NW US, but it is pretty quiet elsewhere. Where are you guys?

I like the blue edged one, but with a bulldog instead of the wolf, coloured in the UnionJack flag colours, with "Bull Dogs" instead of Wolf Pack for us guys in the UK or just with the wolf coloured like the UK flag.

Yea i know thats true. I was a little worried when i got the job im at now. But nobody said anything to me at first and there is nothing in the handbook so i just went with it. I think all the different squadrons should have something similar in the design. That way we'd be able to recongize eachother if we ever meet on the streets someday. Just a thought !!

alright guys, i have a drawings for both choices....ghostriders, and black widows...i don't have the software i need to fix up the spider one, but it is worth looking at. i only drew half of the spider, the other half needs to be mirrored on there. if someone wants me to email the pics to them so they can clean them up, that would be great. they're in bmp format, so they're kinda big. sorry i just don't have the resources to do this properly.

How about the dragon for the NE? Could you do the Dragon with the Yamaha insignia around the dragon?:rock

I like 'Black Widow Squadron' and the insignia that spidey drew up is my choice even though the rest of them :rock . As for a squadron 'captain' or 'leader' im going to have to say its got to be you spidey. Because you have done a lot of work and are willing to do alot more.( but thats just my .02, thats why its a vote):yesnod

I agree with YamaRob. Spidey you have my vote for the south captain. We do need to vote on the name of our squadron too( ghostriders or Black widow). Both are kewl names. If anyone has another idea for a squadron name , Lets hear it. Who ever is in the south, lets get a roll call.:beer :beer

I'm throwing in my vote for Spidey as South captin. I still like Black Widow, but Venom could work too (just reminds me of the bumbling idiots from the MASK cartoon). As for the logo... Loving what you guys have come up with so far, but I think it still needs a little tweek. I think it's mainly b/c I like the more traditional look of the military patches. If I can find a copy of PS, or something like it, I'll try and see what I can come up with (of corse just building from what you guys have already done.) I'm loving the numbers for the South...REPRESENT!

OK I have an idea, not sure how well this will go over but I think it rocks. How about another squadron specifically for forum riders who are in the military? People could have a home squadron (South for me) and be a member of the military squadron. It might be hard for a military rider because some of them move as often as every two years, if they had a home squadron and were a member of the military squadron it would make it easier on them, I personally would love to do it. How about the R1 Legion? Think of it, we could have a emblem with crossed swords or something like that and have our home squadron number on the bottom. Or have two squadron decals? What do you guys think?

Of course you'll have to leave the latin message at the bottom of the insignia. If this insignia is picked for thr midwest, I request to be a detached sqd memeber in the NE. I'll be Omar's Orphans. FYI for those that don't know what I'm talking about - Omar was the VF111 mascot. during Vietnam, The VF-111 sent a detachment sqn to the USS Intrepid. This detachment (because it was not the full squadron) was called Omar's Orphans. B

Glad to see so many ideas! As again, everyone get with your squadron and figure out your mascot/insignia/slogan, and I'll keep everything updated, and will help with the touch-up and finish work.

Sounds like a great idea. Like the idea of Wolf Pack. Don't know how many riders in my area but sounds like a good way to consolidate our group and bring the R1 to the front of the "Pack" Rochester, NY The Wolf Pack logo looks good to me, not sure of the colors.

Adeodadus--yeah, you get lumped in with the West/SW Squadron, unless you can scare up 2 or 3 more people to join you, in which case, I'll activate Pearl. Tom, sorry, Wolfpack is the NW squadron. You are in the NE (R1-013). I don't think they have come up with a name yet.

Hey Shadow, I was thinking about it, I'm going to let all the suqadrons get organized and ready to go before I bring it up again. I think there was too much going on the first time I suggested it.

If no one has claimed it already I'd like to claim the Grim Reapers for r1-441. Can any of you photoshop dudes have a crack at doing us (well me anyway) a patch? I'm crap with photoshop and I'm sure you would do a much better job than my infantile attempts. I think this is a cool idea!!!!!:cool:
