My 06R1 wouldn't start this morning. It was cold, below freezing and she wouldn't start. It often takes a couple cranks to start even in warm weather. I asked the mechanic about it and he said it is common with new R1's having to do with the starter. Anyone else have this problem? Is it the starter or will an aftermarket battery fix it?

there are several R1 that have this issue. it takes couple stabs at button to make it start. it doesnt have anything to do with starter. first i would say battery.. charge it completely or replace it. theres not aftermarket battery that fits new R1's..and stock one is expensive.. like $130. starting problems can be lotsa little things. could be plugs, could be TPS not correct. could be fuel pump issue, or fuel screen partially blocked, pressure regulator... is bike just turning over slowly? or it normal? i would get battery tender for it anyways. that way if it gets cold or sits more than week.. it will keep battery charged. battery tender will automatically turn off when battery is fully charged and it will come on if battery goes below preset voltage. best insurace you can get on battery.

after my wreck, i never fire up my R1 for almost 5 weeks, waiting for the parts coming....last week i try to fire up...but it wont....
the engine turn rather slowly than usually and it will fired up after 4-5 times push........so i put on my charger to my batery, leave it for 10 hours....
and it start at first push quickly.....
i think R1 need a lot electric to fire up.....
just try charge your baterry first before go to other side....
