Can anyone kick down reference to this procedure. I'm specifically concerned about vibration and proper frame stiffness/action.

there's a sticky for torque settings.:wq

Thanks,

I was more concerned with sequence and weight support as opposed to torque specs on the bolts themselves.

As it turns out, once I loosened the right side head /cylinder supports it was necessary to support the engine with a jack to get them lined up again.

With an aluminum frame and floating mounts it's very important to mount the engine specific to the design of the frame. Gotta get the service manual for the official procedure. I was hoping someone would cough it up.

None the less, I have a nice warm fuzzy about the whole thing now having loosened and retorqued everything with the weight of the engine supported by a jack, and the right side floaters being the last thing tightened.

The bike is smoother, stiffer, and straighter now.:thumbup

I have an '02 service manual if you still want the specific info PM or email me and I will post up what the service manual procedure is.

Here's what the service manual says for installing the engine:
1. Install: Do Not Fully Tighten these bolts at this time.
-engine mounting adjust bolts (2)--these are the sleeves that mount from
the inside of the frame.
-rear mounting bolts (2)--these are the long bolts that go in from the left
side of the bike as you are sitting on it. . .one mounts at the very bottom
of the frame next to the sidestand and the other directly in front of the
lower subframe mounting point. Lubricate these bolt threads with lithium
soap grease.
-self locking nuts (2)--these are for the rear mounting bolts.
-left front mounting bolts (2)--each of these bolts has an associated washer
-right front mounting bolts (2)--each of these bolts has an associated
washer and spacer; the spacer goes against the frame and the washer
between the spacer and the bolt head.
--the left and right front mounting bolts are what you refer to as the head
/cylinder supports.
-pinch bolts (2)-- these are on the right side of the bike as you are sitting on
it.

Tighten the bolts in the following order (and to the following torque specs):
1. engine mounting adjust bolts (5.1 ft-lb; 7 Nm)
2. self locking nuts (36 ft-lb; 50 Nm)
3. left front mounting bolts (33 ft-lb; 45 Nm)
4. right front mounting bolts (33 ft-lb; 45 Nm)
5. pinch bolts (17 ft-lb; 24 Nm)

Hope that helps.

Yes that helps, Thanks.

I downloaded the manual from R1 forum.net. Also important is the note that says to support the engine and frame for the procedure.:thumbup
