Hi all , i need advice from the guru's of the forum.
I have a 99 r1 with 17,500 miles in it and the next oil change is in the 18,000 and i use Motul 10w40 syntetic. Ok the sunday after a long run of about 75miles the bike turn on the oil light and the symbol of oil start blinking, i turn off the bike and check the oil level and looks ok the coolant temp looks ok (low) the bike sounds good and no smoke at all also no leaks (only i see little bubbles in the oil). Later i turn on the bike and take it to a run and the light was on all the time (also the oil symbol flashing) , i run the bike for a pair of miles and turn off the light and the symbol and dont turns on again.
Based in your experience what you think is the problem ????
:nopity:Thanks in advance Herman!!!!!!

if you do search you will find its pretty normal. the oil light is for oil level. its not oil pressure. the sensor is known problem. as long as oil level is okay, its no problem. been happenin for long time with them. you can replace sensor, but it might do same thing with new one in time. just keep eye on oil level.

i know.. most of us have been thru same exact thing. it still worrisome to some people. but seems to be huge problem with faulty sensor..thank goodness. some times mine would come on and off then stay off for long time. but i just forgot about it.

Yep, same problem here sometimes. Oil level is fine in my bike. I do think it does go away if I add a tiny bit more oil.

Same issue here! I have a '98 R1 with head work and racing carbs. I bought the bike last April with 14K miles on it. It now has 21K on it and the oil light thing prompted some scrambling on my part. It does use some oil, but not in a major way. If I tear up the interstate for about 2 tanks of fuel (100-120+ MPH), I had better have about a 1/2 qt of Motul waiting. Other than that, not very often. The light will come on and off intermittently if the oil level is 1/2 way between the high and low indicators.
I have learned something from this thread!!!!
