Those of you who have swapped the stock damper for Ohlins or other, is there any noticable difference in low speed steering? I know they allow adjustability and really help on the track but how about around town manners. I remember when first stock dampers were put on the old TL's and they really made the bike heavy steering. Will I notice any difference in town on my 06 R1?

There is a huge difference from soft to firm. All you have to do is reach down and turn the adjuster and loosen up the stearing or tighten it for the twistys. You can do this while sitting on your bike. Its well worth the investment.

:stpd: you can turn it down far enough that its like having no damper at all.

that is how I set it too, like 1 click from open. though the movement from side-to-side feels like there isn't a damper, try moving it very fast or hitting one end and it won't go above a certain speed. I crashed once thinking I didn't need a damper. By the time you realize you need one, it's too late whether in the canyons or city riding. :fact keep it on.

I have my Hyperpro set to 9. It doesn't take much to turn, but the steering to me feels sharp and I keep my lines better. In time, I'll probably go down a click or two.

Okay so I have the Ohlins ons. Easy to install in stock position. Yes it can be set so it's hardly noticable. I like my bikes quick steering so that was why I asked originally. The stock one was okay though. I figured the factory would set it a bit heavy to be legally safe. There is some difference though not huge.
