Engine temp in hot summer...

Hi, ev'ry1 This is a question to all you South Florida residents or those who live where summers are unmercy. Which s your R1's "normal" engine temperature during city riding? My '04 R1 spins its fan almost on every traffic light when outside temp is over 77F. Thermal-switch is working properly, since it triggers the fan at 221 and stops it at 208 approx. The highest figure I've ever seen on display was 232F... nothing to worry about I suppose. On the open road things seem to be cooler: average temp in the 180 - 190F range. What really amazes me is that this bike unlike others I had (TDM and ThunderAce) raises engine temp quick and easy. On that other bikes fan spinning was seldom heard... just on really hot middays between traffic. Moreover, after each ride, when reaching home, fan always starts and I don't know whether to cut-off engine and leave it spin till temp drops or shut all down while engine's still hot... what do you recommend in that cases? Comments welcome... :thumbup

Thats actually a good question. Alot of times during the summer I will be on my way home and pull up to the house and my fan is on. I guess you would just cut her off. The engine will cool down eventually.....

If the fan is on it is better to leave the engine idling until the fans shuts off and then turn the motor off. It keeps the oil circulating until the fan lets the coolant reach a lower temp.

We have the perfect fix for your R1! It's the XSB Fan Control, It allows the rider to turn the fans on sooner before the bike heats up! The R1 typically will never get over 180 under normal conditions. Check out our site at XSBoostPerformance.com for more information. Thanks, Brent
