I just picked up a Yoyodyne Slipper Clutch, used (2000 miles) from a local guy for a good deal. My bikes got 7K hard miles on it.... question: when installing this clutch, should I replace the plates and springs with new ones just to make it a "fresh" clutch? If so, should I stick with Yamaha OEM parts or go with something aftermarket (i.e. barnett)? I'm planning on doing the install myself, never done a clutch myself but watched my friend install one on his Aprilia. Question: what kinds of tools do I need? Any special preparations? Anyone have a step by step instruction manual with pics, by any chance? :sing:

Go to www.gravesport.com and click on the engine parts category and it is in there for $125. I don't think the site lists the 04-06 years but they do have them. You can also call 818-902-1942 to order. They are a great bunch of guys abd can answer a lot of questions for you.

Just curious, but another guy from a different forum recommended the EBC Clutch kit and said it was better.... not sure how it's better though

stick with OEM plates and fibers. others dont offer and significant benefits and OEM are cheaper. why dont you measure thickness of plates you have? they should be between .114-.118. limit is like .110, new plates are usually .118. replace steels anyways. there cheap.. like $1.50 each.

And I'm still teetering on the idea of OEM vs. Graves. $$$ isn't necessarily a problem, but heck, who doesn't like to save a dollar or two.... but then again, if it's better, isn't it worth it?

thats key..if its better... and graves, ebc, barnett are not any better than OEM plates. i drag race and go thru many many plates, so i have tried them all... i run OEM. but its choice, im sure others have good opinions on other brands, but most prolly dont abuse clutch like i do either.

Since you have just a bit more juice than I do, I would imagine your plates look a bit wounded :riding

I got home early from my business trip so I decided to install it with the help of my friend.... here's the problem I incurred: Installed everything according to the manual along with every part that I got in the kit. Everything looked to be in order.... problem - when completely installed and cable connected, the pull from the lever is VERY SOFT, like I can pull it with my pinky finger all day without fatigue. My friend came over to help me who is very handy with all aspects of motorcycles and installed a Yoyodyne the other day on a 600RR. We disassembled everything down to the tranny and put it back together with the exact same result. Any ideas on what might be wrong?
