I k now for a fact my shift fork's life is dated. I believe it will be easier to just put a new engine in it; my question is will any fuel-injected R1 engine fit in the '99 year without major modifications?

what do you consider major modifications? kangaroo 02-01-2007, 02:44 AM 1st off, run a search bro. Many people asked this question and I'll summarize below...
2nd, if you're going to swap engines yourself, that means you're going to drop the engine anyway. If only the forks are bad, then it'll be cheaper to replace that then with an enitre engine. Also while you're there, you can check the tranny and replace as necessary. if you're going to swap out the engine, then going fuel-injected will need a new speedo, a new wire harness, a set of throttle bodies, new ecu, so it is major. And this isn't taking into the tuning part of it. 1longR1 02-01-2007, 12:46 PM yep, they are right on. buddy just did this swap. it takes alot. motor will go on, but theres lotsa of other little things to do and it can be expensive. send him a PM if you want.. he name here is Birdoprey. here can tell you anything you want to know. personally you are better off replacing shift forks and fixing tranny. Gargy 02-01-2007, 06:36 PM I'm sure its cheaper just to replace the fork, but I'm a broke college student who doesn't know engines as well as I wished, nor do I know anybody who'd just help me (they'd charge a fortune to do it). However my boss knows the technique from swapping out the engine in his ZX9R, and he owes me a HUGE favor because of a little incident with a Subaru Justy... won't go there. jray02r1 02-01-2007, 07:05 PM I think this topic gets brought up once a week, Its a cool mod but definetly a major swap FastazzR1 02-01-2007, 07:42 PM if you dont have the money to do it then just replace your forks. but if you do have the money i would do it. did mine and its great. love it....:) Gargy 02-02-2007, 12:37 PM Its not the money so much as the skill. I'm not a good enough mechanic to take apart the transmission. If its easier for me to short-shift it until I can afford a motor with a good shift fork then get a friend to help me put it in then try to get a friend to help me disassemble the transmission (with my luck they never go back together the way they came apart) I'm not going to put a newer engine in, it sounds too complicated for my skill level, I'm gonna have a hard enough time with a good '98-99 motor. | |
