Saw this posted on another website. It's allegedly posted by a Tennessee State Trooper recently: Hey, just to give you a heads up for next season----we have a new captain in the knoxville district which covers blount county------he has already told us that we will put a stop to the "race track driving" up on the dragon this year------so far what they have said is that the speed limit is 30mph and "ANYONE" caught going 50mph and up will be charged with reckless driving and will be jailed and their bike/car will be impounded-----I am telling you this because i am trying to put the word out to everyone i know----or to people who know people that go up there-----I don't want to have to take people to jail for this---however I have bills to pay and I kind of like having a job---so never the less I have to do what i am told to do-----so the way i see it is that if killboy.com knows and you know and dealsgap.com knows and whoever else can find out can pass this along---it will benefit everybody--------feel free to copy and past this and let everyone know-------if you get caught up there it is only your fault because i am trying to pass the word along for everybody's sake-----we are not just going to come up from the bottom like in years past---they are gonna have us go through cherohala skwy in north carolina and come from the top down to the bottom----so no more free rides on your way back to the state line----they are gonna bring unmarked cars with radio's and have unmarked bikes up there----this will be a joint effort with blount county and the THP-----The entire THP motor unit will be brought in 2 people at a time(for a week long assignment) to be paired up with the local car----they plan on busting tail at least 3-4 times right off the bat---then they will sit back and see what takes place-----these orders came from Nashville Headquarters---we have a complete brand new higher ranking structure from the very tip top spot down----they have said we will work until the problem is solved----just wanted to give you and your friends a heads up..........SIGNED..........Trp Cagle with THP assigned to Blount County Division----(don't come crying to me if you get busted----cause I'm telling you now)

who knows. It could be but I have heard stuff like this before. To be quite honest you can ride deal's gap on a motorcycle at 30 mph and still drag a knee in a lot of the turns and still have a blast! I have done it. Everyone just needs to be careful up there and don't do anything stupid. Everything will be fine.

...yeah you need to do more than 50 :2bitchsla :lol :lol Chad's right. 30-35mph on the Dragon is still a blast. The turns are very tight in places and there are some nice switch backs. Its those brief (and I do mean brief ) little straights that temp some to goose the throttle that will get ya in trouble. :fact :yesnod

I know it's a fun road at the posted limit, but come on....who are you fooling.....the majority are up there pushing it way beyond that. If they weren't they wouldn't be pulling over at the top to note and compare times.

It actually scared the crap out of me when I got to the overlook after my first run up the Dragon and heard a couple guys talking about their times and where they thought they could shave a couple seconds off!! :no

There is zero reason to time yourself on any stretch of public road. THat is just asking for trouble in all kinds of ways, nothing good comes from that. I hope none of our guys are doing that..especially how much we preach to be safe. But if guys are doing that then the COPS have every right to be there stopping that nonsense. You want to time yourself go to a track with laptimers and beacons, not a stretch of road with on coming traffic, cars, cruiser, and oh....treees!!! I know a lot of people up there do ride beyond their limits...that is the reason I try and emphasize so much to not do that for us. Therey really is nothing to gain from it.

Yes, there were several people timing themselves at last years Convention while doing runs on the Dragon. IMHO it's plain stupid to do this.

Sadly I believe a few were. :( :no Like I said, there is no sense at all in that. come on guys. with the opportunity to ride your bike at a track on pretty much any given weekend these days...why in the world would you feel the need to time yourself on a public road that is already dangerous??? The roads are fun, and it is fun to push it a little and to learn things and become faster and a better rider, but trying to shave off a second or two on any public road, especially the Gap is just ridiculous! You are more likely to shave your arm or leg off than to shave off a couple seconds:fact

I certainly will be slowing down from now on. After my crash & streetjester's crash on the Skyway and K_Flexx's crash on the dragon... I will not be pushing it ever again.

If someone is timing themsself at Deal's Gap that is just plain stupid. Crazy #$%^&*( locals... This has happened before. It happens every year right before riding season. Although, there has been an increase in enforcement over the last several years. It has largely been more enforced on set, announced weekends. Under Operation dragon sting, or some garabage like that. In which case, if you see a helicopter in the air flying above the dragon, or a bunch of state troopers along the edge of the lake...then you need to go find something else to do for the rest of the day....
