I have a 2001 R1 frame which I am trying to build a bike out of. I have found a 2002 motor with really low miles at a great price but I am unsure if I can perform this motorswap. If any one can help me I would really appreciate it. I have never worked on an R1 so I dont know much about them. I just really love the way they look and would love to build my own bike.

do a search, this has been covered about a million times. It's possible to do it, though it's expensive as you will have to get everything to make the FI work, then do some small fabrication to make it all work. It's not any real power gain to speak of, so for the money it's not the best idea IMHO>

Hey man I just tried the swap on my 00 R1 with a 02 motor and it is a pain in the ass. The upper motor mount in the front doesn't line up with the frame. The fuel pump and tank are different it has an in tank pump for the FI.
