West (Cali) R1-Forum Squadron Voting - R1-014

Not that I even know what this is, but I messed around in Photoshop for a Cali version of this ... thing. You do some too and post here.

Looks cool to me but I thought we were going to have a dragon or black knight. I like the dragon for myself.

SWEDIE, I like the patch idea very much. The one you have there looks good. Being in the Marine Corps we also wear patches to identify ourselves. I may be able to get a good deal on patches and stickers if we figure out what we want. :jump

This was my idea, what do you guys think? It is from the old VMFA 'Black Knights' Squadron (who were somewhat erroneously portrayed on Independence Day). Hey Swedie, if you are still here you should be our squadron commander!

I might be here, things happened yesterday. But we'll see. I'll let everyone know as soon as I'm certain about things. About this Squadron thing.. what is this? Can someone tell me the story behind this?

johnny-- the squadron thing was just something I thought of that might be fun for everyone. It would be a quick way of identifying other members of the forum, plus it would be a good way of getting riders hooked up.

Hey Swedie, (off topic) I realize you may not be around come June for the much talked about R1 forum convention in Vegas but I have sent you a PM a few weeks ago just as I did to turnone and received no replys so I again posted two different posts within the convention topic letting you & turnone know that I had researched the particulars regarding a trackday at Pahrump, Nv during the June 14,15 weekend but still haven't received much feedback from anyone! These dates will not be available forever and need to be secured with a deposit if this is gonna happen!! Regards BD

I really like the squadron idea. This will help with get-togethers and regional identifications... I think it is safe to assume that the forum will only grow as time passes. So, if we begin to id our locations since the beginning, this will help all of us. Which brings me to my question to all you Cali members. Can you all throw a thread listing your specific cities? :jump I say let go with the above patch...LOOKS GREAT. I would recommend to make the whole Dragon dark vise fading. Will be hard to do on a patch. Trust me I know, I wear a patch every day here in the Marine Corps. Anyway I am ready to buy mine, lets get them rolling. If no one wants to jump on it I can find out how much we are looking at. We need to know how many to start off with. Is there a way to figure this out?:jump

I think we are having identity crisis. Are we the Black Knights? or are we the Wolf Pack? You should see South Central's patch, that thing looks awesome. I am thinking about moving there just so I can belong to that group. (I am just messing)

According to No.6 this is the R1-014 Squadrun isn't it? From what I have read it is the West/Southwest Squadrun. It is going to be the Black Knights. If I am wrong let me know. I'm in, but I wanted to get things straight. I'm sure most of you have seen the new post by No.6 about squadrun assignments.

Love the dragon...especially since I have dragons on my Arai helmet. Are they going to be patches or decal or both? What ever they turn out to be out me down for: Patches - 2 and/or Decals - 5

I just saw one of the posts with a dragon on it so I am just assuming. It's probably of no use since I just read the Squadron Rules, but I'll show it to you guys anyways. I don't know if we came up with a insignia yet, so if we have sorry and could someone show me what it is. Anyway, I'll try to come up with one for the "Black Knights". What do you guys think?

that thing is bad ass. As for the squadron rules, I cannot understand why there is a negative connotation with dragons. Being part chinese, the dragon has always been a part of my culture. Ever since I was a kid, celebrating the chinese new year has always involved that mystical creature. Also, dragons have been depicted in many childrens books and popular culture. Furthermore, two of the main helmet manufacturers (shoei and arai) have seen fit to depict a dragon on their helmets. In fact, I own the Duhamel replica and love wearing it. I get compliments from the young and the old alike. As such, there is no reason to seperate it out based on the unproven and mistaken assumption that dragons have a negative connotation. My vote is to KEEP the dragon for the west coast insignia! Just MHO.

Guia_X, That dragon logo is sweet. I say we ask No.6 if we can use it. Also are we going to be voting on the comanding, and executive officers? We should vote on a logo as well just to make it fair to everyone so we can see all the ideas out there.

I say keep the dragon but place it inside a 'black' shield. that way we keep the black nights theme and the dragon. ...you know, like a black shield inside the main border and inside the shield would be the dragon in the foreground with the Yamaha logo in background. ...whatcha think?

That sounds cool to me....keeps people who wants black knights and dragons happy ;)

What time Saturday is everyone going to the show? I have to talk to my crew and see what time we are rollin. I live close enough I could go first thing in the morning and come home for lunch, then get back for round two and still go home for dinner and head back until it closes.

The squadron area is actually pretty large West/SW USA: R1-014 'Black Knight' or 'Dragon' CA, HI, NV, AZ, NM, UT, CO so you are already in the area. Anyway, I tried to meet up with you guys at Home Depot. We ended up having to drive the truck because of babysitter problems and you know how things can get when you throw kids in the mix. We got there just as you all were pulling out and without radios we couldn't get intouch with you all. Oh well, next time will be better I hope. As for the show... The black R1 with the red flames is beautiful in person, but I wouldn't pay an extra $100 for a sticker set. The Ducati 999 is a work of art. Wow, that thing is sweet. But I still think the MV Agusta F4 Senna looks a little better. Too bad they weren't at the show.

Actually, CO and UT are now part of the "Mountain" Squadron, and the 999 rides even better than it looks. Have you guys elected a C/O?

I think (hope) everyone just got caught up in the holidays. Things will hopefully get rolling again. I was thinking maybe we should schedule a "once a month, meet and ride" kind of deal. The wife and I were thinking of riding up to Julian for some apple pie next month anyone else up for it?

Any desicion yet on the Logo? I personally like the one below, (wish I had Corel installed to make some modifications to it) Anyway my vote for the squadron name is rather Dragons than Knights. So count me in for this squadron I'll look for some more Dragon pics to see which one we like the most. Regards.

Hey guys. Well I'm starting to ride again, though very limited. I just wanted to know what the deal is with this squadron thing. Someone mentioned not calling ourselves Black Knights as the movie Biker Boyz had a crew with the same name. I totally agree. Maybe we should get away with Knights or Dragons. I haven't really though about it much so I don't have any other suggestions at the moment. If we were to go with Dragons, I think we should come up with an original artwork just like what I've done. I could always come up with another one if we do want to it change. Anyway, what do you guys think? Sam...I like the new helmet. When you gonna hook me up for mine to get done? :D

Ronin R1 already posted about it somewhere, but we will get the info over here. We will need to think of a way to identify everyone so let us know. Everyone bring your ideas for squadron names and logos.

This Saturday Morning (march 22nd) meet up at 9am infront of starbucks on the corner of bentura and topanga, we'll do some easy canyon riding, get some breakfast and chat, come onnnn, me and my buddies do this ride almost everyweek and by the end of the ride i see people coming out (around noon) let's be lazy bums on sat morning and come out an play!!

I am too, but seems like all the bike nights and such are way the heck up near LA. :( Seems kinda far to go for a bike night during the week. Usually I go to Bravo Burger Bike Night on Wed (tonight, actually) and then sometimes Cerritos Bike Night on Friday nights. However, would be cool to meet some of the R1 people if they go to anything local in South OC. I don't mind going up now and again to the main bike night to meet people, but I think every week would kill me. Hehehehe...

ok ok the more i read this thread the kewler the whole thing sounds. so yeah i am definetly in. so the dragon things works for me if we use guis's drawing - I like it kewl ****. I am new to cali so I have no connects, but will definetly join man.
