I have a 99 R1. I dissassambled the clutch and installed new friction plates. All seemed to be going well until I attempted to reinstall the case cover.
What I need to know is this: Is there a trick to getting the cover on so that the gear drive on the cover is pressurized....When I pull the clutch lever, its completely loose. What do I have to do to make it so that its tight and the cable is actually disengaging the clutch when pulled?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

u have to line up the actuator( piece in middle with teeth) into cover. you need to remove cable completely. remove oil cap. slide cover on with the Level(piece clutch cable goes to on cover) turned clockwise about 45 degrees. as you push cover on it should rotate and catch teeth on actuator. it will rotate counter clockwise as u push cover in. normally i use grease on the actuator and the pressure plate to help keep it in place. when you think you got it, put one bolt in cover and hook up cable and try clutch lever and see if it pulls. just takes little practice to get it right.
