the old best oil question... well theres lotsa threads about that... 1000's of them actually. some will tell you motorcycle oil and others will say other oil. really its a choice thats up to you. there are millions of test on oils and hard to figure out what works and doesnt. if your in hot weather i would say something like 20-50(temps are over 100 most of time) if not then 10-40 should be fine. i have run yamalube in my bikes for first few oil changes, then i switch to castrol 20-50. my 2000 R1 had over 50k miles on it with this oil.

:stpd: I looked into this last year and came up w/ 'mobil 1 MX4T'. Now I see it as '4T'. Here's a link:

Pretty much everyone will argue that what they use is the best. IMHO pick one, if you don't like it, change what you use next time.

First, let it sit for a few minutes to let the oil settle. Then with the bike straight up and on a level surface, check the little glass window next to the rear brake. The oil should show up in between the 2 dots or half way.... The best thing you could get is an owners manual. It will take you step by step.

Takes three quarts with an oil filter change.
Who's name is on the bottle is way less important than how often the oil is changed.
I have yet to see clean motor oil regardless of the maker do damage to an engine.
