i wanna remove the throttle grips...doh one throttle grip and the left grip too but i dont wanna cut them them off as they are new.
any one done this, also how did you slide the new ones on , did you use a warm soapy solution or just a glue that took say overnight to dry?

i am replacing them with renthal grips as they are much thinner to hold and feel sweet in the hand.even though i have big hands i still like the softer thinner grips as it feels more better .

I know how to take them off, take air from a strong air compressor and blow them off working it with a flat-head screw driver.

I have used alcohol and hairspray and both worked good to help new ones slide on and hold.

Easiest way is to use compressed air as was mentioned. Get an air nozzle and stick it inbetween the grip and the switch pod. Comes off in about 3 seconds :) New ones go on the same way.

It goes without saying that you will need to remove the bar ends to do this.

Well...when i put mine on i used hair spray as the glue.... you can using ( i know this might sound strange) put some type of tar remover....or even gasoline.

this is just one idea.....

good luck....

Use a clothes hanger and some soap. it's real easy, just make sure you straighten out the clotheshanger, then bend the end over so you insert the bend underneath the grip (so you don't damage the bar). After you get it all the way to the other end of the grip, push the end of the hanger out so its kinda like a hook, then tug.

I'm going to try the air compressor method. The last set I tried I applied alcohol and it made the white R1 lettering on the inside smear. Hope it works better this time...

last time i done the job on 99 r1 i ran a blade down it and tore it off, used evostick glue and slid on the new one. but air seems much better.

Compressed air is how we install / remove grips at work. It is the quickest and easiest way to do it. If the grips are glued on they will have to be cut off. If you are going to glue the new grips on then do not use air to install tham. The wet glue will let them slide on easy enough.

If the bar and inside of the grip are clean and oil free they should stay in place with out glue.

JAY is correct!! compressed air is the way. But if by chance you don't have it then slipping a flat bladed screw driver inside and working it around the grip will do the trick as well.
