I have basically a stock 99 R1. I was wondering if the irregular popping sound from the exhaust at idle is normal. I bought this bike used with around 9K miles on it last fall. I plan to put new plugs in it, an Akro slip on and an Ivan's jett kit ( needels only ).:sing:

Carb jets may be clogged.

Replaced the plugs, 90% better. Used NGK dual ground plugs. Will be getting carb sync after I install Ivan's jet kit. Couple of weeks.

I had the same problem and found out that one of the valves for the fourth cylinder was jammed. Had to replace it, the valve was cheap, but the labor was expensive.

I don't suspect a valve, Too irregular of a noise. Sometimes every 3 seconds, 5 seconds, ect.. Will get carbs sync'd as soon as the weather clears up. Got Ivan's kit installed.

my bike is a mostly stok r1 with a Hindle exhaust and an air filter, the bike runs mint but when i downshift into 1 or 2nd at high rpm's she pops like a bitch. i just bought the bike so it could be the plugs but i was thinking more like the exhaust didnt have much packing left in it? And how exaxctly do you balance the carbs?

To sync the carbs you need to pick up a set of murcury carb sticks or gauge set. Shoot me a PM if you like and I can walk you through it over the phone - I don't feel like typing that much. It is pretty easy to do though - the hard part is getting to the adjustment screws.

Ya my bike has headers too i just discovered. It only really does it around like 5g or above and only when im down shifting or letting off the throttle. It has done it a coupple times between shifts but only if im at a certin Rpm. I cant believe somone would do a full exhaust and intake and never jet the bike. Is there really anyway to tell if its jetted w/o taking the carbs apart? And what would you guys reccomend for a jet kit if i was to buy one?i was told to adjust all my fuel screws to 3-3 1/2 turns out. Is it even worth me messing with it or should i just get it jetted or put it on a dyno to find out my air/fuel mixture before i go touching anything? Sorry for the long post but i just want to get some advice before i dive in and make a mistake Thanks Garett
