I do pretty much what he says. Short powerful bursts to 8,9,10k. Haven't had a problem yet in 17 years.

I did a series of 'interverals' on my '07 when it had about 20 miles on it - did 6-10K RPM x 3, 7-11K x 3, 7-12K x 3 and 8-13K x 3 & changed the oil after that ride - at 50 miles - the oil was perfect - looked brand new - 'proll didn't need to but it's the 'recommended' way. Now avoiding driving at 1 constant RPM for too long of a time - no freeway cruising 'til at least 600 miles.

I have to ask as I am planning to break in my '07 this same way...Did you go through all the gears when reaching 11-13K rpm's?

I have to ask as I am planning to break in my '07 this same way...Did you go through all the gears when reaching 11-13K rpm's? of course I was on a closed track and I'm a professional rider :thumbup I did these in 2nd and 3rd gear - mostly 3rd - if I had road-room I 'prolly would have used 4th for some of the revs but that's getting kinda fast approaching hefty speeding ticket realm.

I see...So would you actually start in second and shift up to third? Or were all of these runs done in just second, or just third gear with no shifts? Also, did you do the 3 runs, than let the engine cool down, than 3 more runs, let the engine cool etc...? It sounds identical to the way mototune suggests breaking in on the dyno. That's what I'm leaning towards, but on the road.

sorry - haven't checked back here in a bit. I just did all of tthe revs in 1 gear just winding it up. Regarding letting it 'cool down' - it was about 55 degrees so the bike was running at about 170 degrees (not hot) - so I did not let it cool down - it was more based upon having the room to run the bike that fast so some had a few min in between and some I was able to do right after the other. Yeah, I based this off of the 'mototune' method and after talking w/ some local race shop guys here.

Thanks man, I'm definitely going to do it that way. I asked the local dyno tuner how much they would charge to do 9 runs on the dyno to break it in, and he acted all confused and said to break it in on the street. The guy said they've never had someone ask to break in a bike on the dyno before.
