Tech Spec Tank Grips

I don't like the looks of Stomp Grip (personal preference), so I explored alternatives for tank grips and stumbled across TechSpec Gripster. http://www.techspec-usa.com/overview.html (http://www.techspec-usa.com/overview.html) It looks like TechSpec Gripster compares favorably to Stomp http://www.dogworldmag.com/mcn/featu...nk%20grips.pdf (http://www.dogworldmag.com/mcn/features/June%20tank%20grips.pdf) I ordered the "High Fusion" design http://www.techspec-usa.com/gs/yamaha.html (http://www.techspec-usa.com/gs/yamaha.html) Installing the product is a piece of cake. It looks awesome, grips exceptionally well, and sticks perfectly. In short, Gripster exceeds my expectations. I'll add some pictures to this thread this afternoon. But they made a mistake: TechSpec accidently doubled my order. I received two complete packages! I informed them of the mistake and asked them where i should return the extra kit to. Dean at TechSpec asked me to keep it, suggesting that I might loan it to friends to demo the product. Because it peels off and is re-usable, we can use the extra kit as a test kit to see if you like it before you buy it. So here's the offer: If you'd like to test the kit, just paypal me the $$$ to ship it to you, try it for a while, and be willing to package it up for the next rider who might eventually want to try it. Whataya say?

I want that tank pad you have. Is that from TechSpec? If not where can I get one HA! I am the second owner of this bike. The original owner did a really nice job with the bike before i bought it. The tank pad is just one of the nice touches that were on the bike when i bought it. sorry, dunno what kind it is.

Looks good, not as aggressive as the stomp grip, which can wear your leathers a bit. Not to mention all the squids asking why you have shower matt on your tank.....

Bill A A few questions, I notice the cut of the snake skin on your lower tank panels (sorry, dont know what their called) is different than what is shown on the website. That one is much bigger, but yours looks like its cut for the bike. which one do I order to get it like yours? Also, I am about 6'4" and I notice when Im on the bike my knees are making the most contact with that same panel, not much on the tank itself, but on the track I imagine I would need the tank grip at lean angle. What is your (or anyone else, for that matter) opinion/ experience with it? Thanks for the info and pix Scott

I am 6' 0" I ordered the R1 precut kit, but i can't remember how i designated that it was for an '06. But it fit my bike very well. Maybe call Dean at Techspec to ensure you get the right one. He was very friendly and helpful when i called: Dean Davis TechSpec-usa 916-941-6606

hell ya this shit rocks, I cant tell ya how much I love it. Couple things to watch for though. One thing is to make sure your area of contact is away from the edges, if not it will peel off. Two be careful if the precut stuff has started to curl while still on the wax sheet, I recommend cutting it down a little or its will probably start to peal. I got another sheet so I could re-wrap my tank fairings, they peeled on the edge so im wraping them all the way around so no edge is exposed, ill post pics when i get it all done, its kinda frankenstien atm. But once again I love these things, I cant believe 99% of the total motorcyclists are still sliding around every day when this is $40.

I hate to rain on the Tech Spec parade, but in the intrest of honesty.... I'm kinda disappointed. The edges of the tank pads are curling up and will not stay down. My bike was clean and dry when I put them on, I even wiped down the entire area with alcohol before putting them on. I have read that you can trim the edges to cure the problem, but should I have to on a brand new set of pads? I could understand having to do that if you were re-applying them, but not on a new set. Thanks to Bill A. I only had to pay shipping to try these out, if I would of payed full price for these and had this problem I would of been pissed. I couldnt see spending $45 for something you need to cut on to make work. Sorry Tech Spec.... not worth it IMO. Mike

We really need away to keep the edges from seperating, if i come up with anything ill let you all know.

i have had both the snake skin and the high fusion and until they can fix the problems with the adhesive separating from the rubber they wont ship the high fusion. i went through 3 sets of high fusion on there dime (just call and you will have a new set in the mail the same day) the last time i got the snake skin grips and i love them. they said that the snake skin design was no worries and its true.
