I have a 2000 R1. I think I might need my carbs synced, but not sure. Any suggestions anyone. Here is my reason. When my bike starts it is fine, but when I go to take off and I come to a stop my RPM's raise over 2000 rpm's. So from than on my bike is always running at a HIGH rpm. Everytime I go to stop my RPMS raises up. Also when I am riding and I am coming to a stop and lets say I am shifting form 3rd. When I am down shifting and I get to neutral it kinda sticks and makes a clicking noise like it doesnt want to down shift to 1st. So I have to constantly push down and when it finally drops to first it makes a hard sound I guess because the RPM's are high not sure. As well when I am on the expressway and I down shift instead of it shooting like a bat out of hell it kinda hesitates. Will a carb synchorize solve these problems....Thanks for all opinions

I'm interested in this too, since my RPM's raise to about 2k when stopped, even though the idle is turned down.

Hi,
Sounds to me that either your throttle cable(s) sticks or your idle position is too high. They do go out of adjustement sometimes (I mean the idle).
Warm the bike for 15 mins (rev it). If the rpms are over 2000rpms when throttle is closed first check free play on throttle. Is the free play 3-4 mm? If yes try adjusting the idle to about 1500 rpms. If no, first fix the throttle free play, then adjust idle at 1500rpms. Next take her out for a quick ride. Is now going /sticking over 2000? If yes then your throttle cable sticks. Take them out and lube it (both of them) or replace them (but lube should do fine).

The other thing to do is a good cleaning of your carbs, check the float height, and then sync them....assuming your bike is all stock.

Let me guess. Its running fine. Then when you blip the throttle, it will sit around 2-3k for a bit, then randomly drop back down to normal?

That kind of sounds like mine, though I know the throttle cables aren't the problem

If thats what it does, get out the trusty ol' cheap @ss autozone carb cleaner and go to work. Its either a sticky needle or float. Pull them apart and clean the crap outta the carbs.
*Important tip*
DO NOT JUST SPRAY CARB CLEANER INTO THEM, IT WILL CAUSE YOUR DIAPHRAMS TO EVENTUALLY DISOLVE. CLEAN THEM PROPERLY BY TAKING THEM APART.
If your around the Chicago area, shoot me a PM. I have those carbs down to a science. Can even sync them if you buy me some mercury loads.
