Entering "CO Adjustment mode" in 2007

Hi All: I'm a proud '07 R1 owner and a bit of a technoGeek. I ordered a Service Manual the day I signed the contract thinking I could study up until my bike arrived. Didn't work out that way but now I'm getting into it "well and truly." For background: I was a Yamaha (Ducati and Suzuki) wrench every season from 1979 to 1990 (just summers for the last few years while in Engineering school). I'm quite happy to read one of these manuals cover-to-cover. Looking at all the postings describing the FBW lag at 5500 RPM: While I only have 35 miles on mine so far (:cryin its snowy today, too:cryin) and haven't actually experienced it yet, I do believe its a real problem. I have a few ideas about dealing with it. This behavior reminds me of the way the left over models in '80s behaved "back in the day" when the fuel stabilizer caused the famous “green goo.” The results of the carb tuning I did on hundreds of them was very dramatic. Having hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours tuning carbs with the exhaust gas analyzer, I wouldn't be surprised if old fashioned tuning helps allot. Its, at least, a good place to start. The possibility needs to be eliminated before moving on. Carefully searching through the service manual, first by hand and then in PDF, I found 6 references to “CO Adjustment” and one specifically says 'Execute the CO adjustment mode and set the exhaust gas volume of the faulty cylinder to “0”.' (See page 8-59) However, I haven't seen anything on how to "Execute the CO adjustment mode”. Suspiciously, when I picked up my service manual, it had the plastic wrapper torn off. Maybe that's where those instructions are! So, does anybody out there know how to enter CO Adjustment mode on the 2007 R1? Maybe an "anonymous coward" from some mysterious Yamaha shop that can “clue us in” without falling victim to reprisals? ***Insert Conspiracy Theory Here*** Thanx all! adam.sys PS: I lost about 90% of my sense of smell back when I did all that carb cleaning. Recently its recovered to about 75% to 80%. Hey, it has its advantages; just ask the ladies!

the US 04-06 bikes required a wire to be grounded to enter the diag/CO mode by holding the select/reset buttons for 8 sec. after turning key on with the engine off.

How-to: Richen or lean mixture without a power commander! - R6Messagenet.com (http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15407) I found this on the R6 website, not sure if the wiring is the same on the 07 R1 Anyone else know :)

I have a Euro model and could get to Diag without "wire 29". I scrolled through the settings and C1 to C4 is all at 0. I'll measure the AF and see what's it like stock.

yeah...that's exactly the same here in italy... C1 to C4 are on 0 value...by increasing to 5 all value everything seems smoother...but it could just be my immagination!

Not certain this will help but... DIAGNOSTIC MODE Setting the diagnostic mode 1. Turn the main switch to “OFF” and set the engine stop switch to “ON”. 2. Disconnect the wire harness coupler from the fuel pump. 3. Simultaneously press and hold the “SELECT” and “RESET” buttons, turn the main switch to “ON”, and continue to press the buttons for 8 seconds or more. NOTE: • All displays on the meter disappear except the odometer/trip meter/fuel reservoir trip meter/stop watch displays. • “dIAG” appears on the odometer/trip meter/fuel reservoir trip meter/stop watch LCD. 4. Press the “SELECT” button to select the diagnostic mode “dIAG”. 5. After selecting “dIAG”, simultaneously press the “SELECT” and “RESET” buttons for 2 seconds or more to activate the diagnostic mode. The diagnostic code number “d01” appears on the odometer/trip meter/fuel reservoir trip meter/stop watch LCD. 6. Set the engine stop switch to “OFF”. 7. Select the diagnostic code number corresponding to the fault code number by pressing the “SELECT” and “RESET” buttons. NOTE: The diagnostic code number appears on the odometer/trip meter/fuel reservoir trip meter/stop watch LCD (01–70). • To decrease the selected diagnostic code number, press the “RESET” button. Press the “RESET” button for 1 second or longer to automatically decrease the diagnostic code numbers. • To increase the selected diagnostic code number, press the “SELECT” button. Press the “SELECT” button for 1 second or longer to automatically increase the diagnostic code numbers. 8. Verify the operation of the sensor or actuator. • Sensor operation The data representing the operating conditions of the sensor appears on the odometer/trip meter/fuel reservoir trip meter/stop watch LCD. • Actuator operation Set the engine stop switch to “ ” to operate the actuator.
