The other day ipopped into one of my local bike repair shops and he said to me that i would need my tappets done on my 02 R1 as its done 23000 miles and should of been done at 18000.
I found this strange so out comes my haynes manual - no mention of any tappet tampering at any milage. i regularly service my bike, but do feel as though she needs the fuel injectors looking at and maybe shims etc.
can someone advise me of what i should be getting done and if this guy was talking B*****ks as i suspect

According to the service manual the valve clearances on the '02-'03 should be checked & adjusted (if required) at 26,600 miles.:thumbup

i agree, I bought my 02 with 27000 miles on it and the service book has the valve clearances checked at 25000 miles so sounds about right

Mine is 26,600.... a weird number but that is factory spec.
