I have an 04 R1 w/22,500 miles and recently removed the PC3. Since it has been way down on power much more than before I installed the PC3. Does removal adversely affect timing or should I look at something else as the root cause?

Thanks

i think that you just got used to how nice a pc3 maike run so when you took it off it feels alot worse.

Have you put any other mods on since you put on the pc3, espcially anything that would change the air mix like slips or gut the cat?

I have stock 05 R1 as well so I have something to campare it to.

I have gutted the cat and installed the race baffles in the pipes.

I am one down on the front sprocket and power wheelies are way harder than they used to be.

I store a friend's 06 zx-10 and the power is similar to what my R1 used to be but now I don't stand a chance. My bike is slow!

:iamwithst. think that's exactly what happened. if you had a PC3 installed unless it was malfunctioning, why would you remove it? I can assure you, there is nothing slow about a stock R1 :fact

I just repoed this bike back from a family member and he took the PC3 off. I know what it should feel like and I know there is a problem, I just don't know with what.

If you are just getting the bike back i would bet that the bikes problems are not associated with the removal of the PC3. Whoever had the bike prolly didnt tell you that it had some type of mech problem already. It could have been mistreated or suffered a failure of some type. Maybe the valves need adjusting, it is getting close to the that time espcially if the bike has seen race use or been ridden abusively.

first things first, I would check your air filter, and spark plugs. You will be surprised how much power those will rob when fouled!

Ya- checking the plugs is a great first place to start. If he had a bad map on there or if they have never been changed then they are WAY overdue. When did you change them last. I changed mine at 9K and it made a total diffrence. Another thing i just thought of is your X-up could be stuck closed or just not adjusted right. I would check that first cause it is alot easier than doing plugs and can make a huge diffrence if it is stuck closed....
