ryn8a 03-10-2007, 12:15 AM Hey ya'll,
I was on the deck eating crabs with my cousin and we started talking about crawfish boils we've had in the past. Being that we are both from New Orleans we were able to reminisce on some good times. Then I started thinking about plans for my next crawfish boil when all of the sudden I had a great thought... How about a crawfish boil at the convention. It sounds great to me, but maybe that's just me.
If you are interested, let me know. We can all pitch in and "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" :thumbup
***EDIT***: So after a few discussions, WEDNESDAY will be the night for the Crawfish Boil. So far, we have about 40 people interested.

Definately good with beer!!!
lol... I don't think Fontana would have any.
What we could do is get them shipped to Atlanta from New Orleans via the airlines. I've gotten live crawfish shipped from my hometown all the way to Portland Oregon before. I'll pick them up before I leave and bring em to the convention. From there we can keep them for a few days or cook em right away.
Once I get the number of people interested, I can start pricing. I'll leave this open for a while so people have time to get in. So sign up here or PM me ;)

I've got like ten tiki poles, 2 gallons of the anti-mosquito juice, and two actual machines called "mosquito delet-o", Hell they run off of a full tank of propane... this is them. I'll bring those bastards for sure.
Which brings me to my next question... WHERE DO YA GET PROPANE @ THE GAP?

They'll be spicy. We cook em with sausage, corn, potatoes, celery, onions, garlic, lemons, and (secret) spices.
Simply put, you pinch the tail and suck the head. :secret: Some people prefer not to suck the head, but they are missing out on the good stuff.
Gawarrior 03-13-2007, 08:11 AM mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! Man, I can't wait for this!!!
Ryan, how about monday or tuesday night of the convention?? We can maybe have Fontana fix us a light dinner that night.
Also, post up a thread on the www.r6-forum.com and let those guys know about it as well.
Cajunham 03-13-2007, 08:23 AM All this talk about crawfish...Ok now I have to get some for this weekend. I'll think of everyone when I pull the first batch out of the water.

yeah that is cool ryan:thumbup Just let me know and I will get fontana to do us a lighter dinner on the night we do it.
~R1CrazyTex~ 03-13-2007, 11:26 AM Being that I am pretty sure that most of us can really pound down some of the food...
I would estimate that we'd need about 5-8 boiling pots going, and about 300lbs of crawfish.
I have a boil every year and usually only 5 guys with one pot. I get 120 lbs and we go through every bit of it.
Plus the extra pots are good to so everyone eats hot food at the same time.
My .02c
Also gonna need several folding tables with paper or disposable cloths on top of them so you can pour out all the food across the table tops.
JBauer 03-13-2007, 05:08 PM I used to do 500Ibs every spring. You can get away with 3 burners if you got some nice big pots say 100 or 120 qt pots. If your pots are smaller than that yeah you probably want about 5 burners going. Don't forget put the garlic and potatoes in first so they get nice and soft!
Kevap 03-13-2007, 05:37 PM Looks like we definately have enough interest to do it.

Hell, I remember when I was 15yo at my dads Cajun Rest... I'd show up to work @ 7am and eat about 4lbs, Noon I'd eat about 7-8lbs, and night I'd eat about 10-12lbs.
Worked out GREAT because they were 100% free for me! And I actually made more money by eating them. I'd sit up at the bar with two HUGE platters with nothing but crawfish, a pitcher of lemonade, a roll of paper towels and eat until my little heart was content. People would come up to me while they were waiting on a table and ask me "HOW THE HELL DO YOU EAT THAT MUCH, AND HOW DO I EAT THEM". I'd show them, then they were hooked!

You know what's weird???? I don't even like that crap. It's just filler. Too easy to run my Mickey D's and pick up a burger and fries for lunch. :dunno And after when I go back to work, I feel like there's a freekin' rock layin' in my gut and I don't wanna work anymore for the rest of the day. :flush:
I've got my breakfast laid down right now. Banana as soon as I get up while my coffee brewing,,,,, couple pieces of fruit through out the morning and now I gotta get my lunch down. I'm takin' baby steps,, got my breakfast down to a T at least. :)

While I generally don't enjoy fast food, I still would eat it occasionally (once every week, or typical once every other week) when I'd get a craving for it. Unfortunately all that's being forced out of my diet. It's not a bad thing by any means, but knowing I'm being forced to is the difficult part. :dundun:
Daytime meals typically aren't an issue for me. It's the evening meals when I'm busy running around after work. I just may need to keep a can of tuna and protein powder in my car. :lol :lol

Yeah those 80 quarts are big and nice. 80 quarts can hold a nice size sack with all the extras. If we use anything smaller then it will take forevvvver to cook for everyone. I hope we can find some more 80 quarts.

They've got a website but there's no "for sale" or shipping. They are discount outlets and products change from day to day. What ever they can get surplus/factory-seconds/overstock/etc...
You're bound to have some type of store "up there" similar, Value City, Dollar General or the like.
Another good place to check would be military surplus stores if you have any.
fjorn 04-14-2007, 02:04 PM Sadly, most military surplus stores have jacked the shit out of their pricing due to current situations. Maybe not so for places near military installations, but around here you're better off hiring someone to custom make you one compared to military surplus pricing.
