Hi,
I've bought a PC3R for my R1, then I installed and connected it with the bike as it's written in instructions but I cannot connect it with my laptop
I mean, I connect it with the laptop but when I turn the main switch and the kill switch ON lights come up on PC3R but after a while (like maybe 5 sec) they dissapear (something makes "click" during it) and the communication is lost. Second try: when I turn the gas grip lights on PC3R come up and down, I see that the throttle works fine and the software shows those changes until the communication is lost :dunno . Battery is OK, everything is connected correctly on a bike, tank is full of gas, connectors are firm in place.
I got software, instructions and some maps for my Micron Highmount and K&N from R1-forum :rock (BTW the same as Micron slip-on + stock filter) and from the Power Commander website. I've tried RS232->RS232 cable (port #1) and RS232->USB cable (port #5) also but the problem is still the same. Lost communication PC3R-> PC :whtfu:
Should I run the bike while connecting PC3R with laptop? I don't want to put my bike in fire or damage the PC3 unit :scared Spring is coming and I cannot ride!! :cryin
How did you install it on your bikes and connect it with your laptops? Were there any difficulties as mine? Someone?
Thx

i am going to take a leap and say u connected one of the PC3 plugs to a rear brake light switch instead of the proper plug.. (i think the brake light is brown and the one u should connect it to is white)... i did the same thing by accident (i had no instructions when i did it lol
just check to see if ur rear brake light works.. if it doesnt then thats ur problem

PC3 is connected OK (the right "long" small connector is connected with a white one, not brown for sure, the rest of connectors are also OK, there are no other possibilities under the gas tank to connect them to a bike), brake light works just fine. I checked all the connection several times.. I forgot to mention that I have R1'03 (canadian model).
I've red that PC3R is more advanced than USB model since it allows to play with the ignition timing (R like "race" models?), that's why I went with it.
Today I'll try to play with it again and see what happens..
Thx.

Does the bike start with the Power Commander connected? Is it just the laptop connection you are having problems with?

I have some news discovered yesterday.. Bike starts when PC3R is connected and then everything is just fine, it works!! :tocoo: That is what I asked about so it means that you should run a bike FIRST to see the PC3R (not USB) working!! Unless you have attached the power adaptor to PC3R (I don't), then probably you don't have to run the bike itself. Of course it is connected to battery "-" terminal anyway.
Procedure: PC3R is connected (double checked that), then I turn main switch ON and kill switch ON, PC3R lights up (meanwhile I find port #5, connected via RS232->USB cable), then after a while lights dissapear on PC3R/something "clicks" and then I run the bike. Next I twist the throttle, light on PC3R come up and goes up and down so here everything is OK and working fine.
I see the PC3R on laptop but I have message: "file and PC versions incompatible" :whtfu: I've red about communicating ports problem on a PC3r->PC (Support/FAQ on a PC3 website). Although RPM varies as I twist the throttle I cannot get a map saved on PC3R and download it on a laptop (it may be usefull or valuable..). And that's all I have :dunno ..
Also I still cannot upload a map. I've tried. But... I admitt I'm just plain stupid or just was exhausted playing with it :banghead: Yesterday I tried to upload a map that was... zipped ROTFLMAO. When I got home I realized that all the maps I download from PC website and R1 forum are compressed. I'll try to load exact map again ( unzipped this time :D) when I have my laptop back. Providing my files and PC versions will be OK now.
BTW, can someone explain what are the version, fuel/ingnition, map numbers? See attachment.
Thx a lot!
