wats up all! i have a 98 49 state r1.....and well its got 34,000 miles, got it with 14k but its been raced, wheelied, stunted, and droped a few times......
so here's my dilema, it started knocking so i took it out to see whats wrong internally of course, but i heard that u can swap a 02 fuel injected motor into a 98.
is this possible???? the only reason im hesitant on rebuiliding mine is its just kinda beat up and i dont wanna fix one thing and another happen down the line.
has anyone done this before???my old service manager told me all i can use from the 02 is the bottom end because the whole motor wont mount, is he right? any advice??
i just want my bike back lol, its been down for about 5 months, just finally got some money to start messing with it again.
thanks all!!

From reading other posts, it is certainly possible to get the engine to fit but you will need all the electrics too including the loom, clocks etc and even the handlebar switches.
Might be easier to get another carb'ed engine.

i wish one of these GURU guys would reply or let me kno for sure wether its for it or ill just buy another 98 motor

I have seen a thread regarding the same thing you are looking at doing, it is possible however there is more work involved than one would think initially.
At the end of the thread, they guy said once all the cost, time and messing around was done he wished he had just bought a complete 02 instead.
If you want a cheap fast fix pick up another carbed motor id say.

i just bought another 98 motor instead, 8000 miles for only 1k shipped from the east coast......i talked to a couple people and they told me that i could only really use the bottom end of the motor because the actual motor wouldnt mount up, it just sounded like to much work and money, id rather just sell my 98 and buy a 03.
