stator output question

Can any electrical gurus give me a hand please ? Does the output of the stator across all three wires (when checked at the connector to the reg/rec) have to be exactly equal ? I've done a search on the forum and found statements like : 'they should be equal at around 70V AC at 5000rpm' Of the 3 wire combinations, I have two at 72v and one at 65v. Is this acceptable ? or is this inequality a sign of a stator on it's way out ?

There will be some variance, the wire lengths won't be exact in the windings, wear & tear, corrosion over time etc. will mean they won't be dead nuts on. 72/72/65 sounds a little higher than normal, I think when I last checked mine they were in a range of 2 or 3v... but I wouldn't think that would be the source of serious problems. Are you having charging issues? If so, give some more details.

You will have slight varariance from phase to phase, what you have sounds like one phase has a voltage drop. Make sure your volt meter is set to read AC. and the volts rise with the RPM. Then check each phase with an ohm meter phase to phase and phase to ground looking for an open. if you have access to a megger it will find any shorts within the stator that you might not find with a VOM. IMPORTANT: Check all connections for heat damage. If possible load your stator and check voltage. try to do all of this at the closes point to the windings as you can get. If it all checks good go back to the wiring and the reg/rec. Can any electrical gurus give me a hand please ?
