i have a 2001 r1 and i had the clutch plates replaced last year. i have a problem when in first gear at high rpms the bike seems to blip out of gear for a fraction of a second and right back in. this only occurs in 1st gear. i am wondering what steps i should take to fix or if anyone else had this problem before.

had a similar prob last summer on my 2000......shift dogs were wore out...does the blip happen on hard throttle or all the time?

Sounds like gear dogs and/or a shift fork I am afraid.

thats what i was thinkin....pretty common prob among these years...not pointing fingers but did the shop workin on the bike happen to bend the shift forks a bit?

i just replaced the shift dogs on frankenstein.....correct me if im wrong... parts arent terribly expensive but labor is a killer.....my suggestion is if yer mechanically inclined(or just plain broke) do the bulk of the work yerself if not the whole job

how involved is the work You have to completely split the whole motor to get to the gearbox....if you are mechanically minded and have a manual should be no big deal... good luck:thumbup
