eham25 03-19-2007, 10:33 AM I have an 07 R1 with around 300 miles on it. The other day when we had a spike of warm weather, the group went out riding. I noticed the hotter my bike got the harder it was for me to find neutral. When the bike is cold, it goes into neutral very easily. When the bike gets hot its a completly different story. It seems to only happen when i am stopped at a light. When i'm rolling to a stop it still goes to neutral very easlily. Anyone else having this problem...Does it sounds like i need to adjust my clutch.
Wheat 03-19-2007, 10:40 AM Sounds like its time to get the old oil out and new in.
eham25 03-19-2007, 11:21 AM Really thats all, but the dealer told me to change it at 600 miles...
BinaryBliss 03-19-2007, 11:29 AM I have 1111 miles on my bike and have never experienced that. Only thing I have to do is after going from second gear to neutral, if I want to go to first I have to release the clutch then squeeze it again to go to first. That doesn't mean you don't have a legitimate problem.
eham25 03-19-2007, 11:53 AM I'm going to change my oil this weekend, and we'll she what happens!

I have the same issue and I only have 54 miles on mine.
eham25 04-10-2007, 06:09 AM Well i have changed my oil and have logged another 150 miles and it seems a little better, but still a little difficult when it warms up. I think im gonna do a clutch adjustment, i have the service manual, o wanna check the specs on the clutch.

I live in the city so I'm constantly putting it into neutral at the lights and the thing gets REALLY hot in traffic. Even with all that I haven't had any difficulty getting into neutral. I think your clutch adjustment idea is a good one.
BSR-1 04-10-2007, 03:09 PM the 04-06's had the same issue with the clutch "hanging up" when new.
it'll dissapear with some miles.
like wheatman said changing the oil couldn't hurt, even with less than 600 miles on it. the most metal wear is gonna happen in the first 50 miles I would go ahead & change it again at 600.
R1_R1D0R 04-10-2007, 05:18 PM Try switching to full synthetic.
adamsys 04-10-2007, 05:56 PM Here's something to look at. When I picked mine up from the dealer they had the clutch adjusted so it engaged about 1/4 inch from the grip. I like it just the other way, almost all the way out when it engages. If you have it engaging close to the grip you may not be fully disengaging the clutch even pulled all the way in. If there is the slightest bit of drag from the plates it will make it hard not to overshoot neutral.
Something to check out.
eham25 04-11-2007, 06:13 AM I checked the clutch adjustment last night and it all within the specs, so i guess i will just wait and see. i will change the oil again at 600 miles and keep you guys posted...But overall i love this bike...except the lag. i moved from a 2005 ninja 636 to this r1...hands down the quailty is so much better than the kawi....You can tell by the fit and finish of the bike.
BSR-1 04-11-2007, 09:55 AM glad you moved up. my stepson had a gixxer 600 & while it was a nice bike, they're just not the same build quality.
also don't switch to synthetic just yet, you want some wear to fully seat your rings etc. & synthetic doesn't allow enough wear.
eham25 04-11-2007, 10:18 AM No i don't plan on switching to synthetic, i used the yamalube oil.
7777r1 04-11-2007, 10:34 AM I don't understand why some of you are shifting to neutral at stop lights? Keep it in first with the clutch pulled in. You never know when you may have to make a quick decision...It saved me once from getting rear ended at a light. Had the bike been in neutral I don't think I could have moved in time.
eham25 04-11-2007, 12:38 PM thats not practical, michigan lights are very long, and it's my choice, you can do what you want but, reguardless it should shift smooth, it shouldn't have the issue...don't change the subject...

Wow calm down man...I wasn't trying to change the subject, I was just looking out for another rider...but you're right the bike shouldn't have that issue. The only suggestion I have for it was in the post above.
redlion 04-12-2007, 05:10 PM Dont know how relevant this is but I had changing down / finding neutral isues with my '04 R1. It was not till I had the second service when I talked to the service engineer about it he said he had come across this many times and that Yamaha had changed their oil recommendation. They changed the oil from fully synthetic to semi-synthetic and straight away it was like a totally different gearbox, smooth as you like with none of the previous problems.
eham25 04-13-2007, 06:55 AM I am not currently running full synthetic, i am running the recommended yamahlube oil. I will change the oil again at 600 miles. Since i last changed the oil around 300 hundred miles, it has since gotten better, so i hope it all goes away on it own as the bike breaks in.
