Well last fall I went down one tooth in the front in order to compensate for the taller gearing compared to my old 01.

Anyhow I GPS'd the bike and put a speedo healer on (simple install). But since I couldn't find any info on the stock bike error I wanted to post mine:

Testing Method:

Ran the bike up to 100mph indicated and held it there on the freeway. After the GPS got a fix on the speed I recorded it. I repeated this at 50mph to verify the linearity of the calibration.

[One tooth down in the front (16/45)]
Indicated: 100mph
GPS: 86.4mph
ERROR: +15.7% (speedohealer.com)

Removing the [ +6.3%] error from the gearing change. This left +8.9% of the error in the stock bike.

Some easy numbers for future reference, using +8.9% GPS measurement on my 04:

[Stock 04: 17/45]
ERROR: +8.9%

[16/45]
ERROR: +15.7%

[16/46]
ERROR: +18.3%

[16/47]
ERROR: +20.8%

[16/48]
ERROR: +23.4

Hope this helps those who do not have a GPS.

Just bought a 2004 with -1 in the front and no speedohealer. No idea what the actual milage is.

Have you had any problems with the speedohealer like some 2007s have reported? Don't know enough about the wiring to see a difference.

Nope even GPS it afterwards and it's spot on. Was easy to install, easy to setup.

Thanks for the help!!
When I check out these numbers using the SH calculator (website)
it gives me 2 values.
First the 15.7% total speedo error
Second the "SH calibration value" of 13.6% (optimized for speedo)

Which do I use to input into the SH?
I am assuming it is the calibration value.

I do not have GPS and would like a good starting point so I can refer to it when I use the manual (mile marker) method

Thanks,
Scott

Here is the reason. The signal sent to the cluster, and is split into two electrical components. The speedo, and the odometer.

The error on the odometer is 3% lower then the speedo in most cases according to everything I read. What the online caclulator does is split the difference between the speedo and the odo.

I'd much rather have a more accurate speedo, and a 2-3% slow odometer then the other way around, it's your call. 2-3% is within the rolling difference of a new tire and old one, so don't sweat it.
