Wheat 03-21-2007, 10:01 PM I know that most of us with 07s have low miles. I have already had my rear wheel off once when the Bike was new. I had set tension to an inch and a half of slack. I rode this past week everyday and today while i did my first service i checked it and had a ton of slack. I adjusted it.....Just a reminder that new bikes, new chain in general, WILL stretch in there first few hundred miles. Just a heads up guys...:thumbup

MuffDVR 03-22-2007, 06:15 AM Yeah, all my R1's stock chain stretched a ton. I had thought about putting a good RK chaing right away on this one, I might still do it. My 04 chain stretched all the way to the full limit of the chain adjusters by only 3000kms. When I clutched up a wheelie, the left side adjuster bent right in half on me and the chain ended up marking my swingarm. Yamaha gave me a new chain, but wouldn't do anything about the swingarm damage.
2K7R1 04-02-2007, 08:13 PM Only have 315 miles on mine and checked the slack this past weekend and found SERIOUS dip in the chain (2-2.5"). Tightened her up to around 1" and is riding smooth as can be. Never thought metal could stretch that much so early on...
adamsys 04-02-2007, 09:00 PM I'm at about 350 miles myself and I noticed an S-Load of drive line lash. At a stop light I toed the chain but the swingarm bracing prevented an honest appraisal. Does there seem to be a lot of snap when dropping into first from neutral for everyone? I've gotten into the habit of letting go of all the brakes when I drop her into gear, even when on a hill. Anybody else?
speedsnice 04-02-2007, 09:03 PM I only have 200 miles, gonna have to check the slack on it.
pchiava 04-04-2007, 05:19 AM Picked my 07 up last weekend from the dealers. As is always the case, I went through my own inspection of the bike and found the chain slack was less than an inch, more like 3/4 of an inch from the factory. Hmmm, nice way to break-in the gear box!:nforc:
Always check the chain slack everytime you go out.:riding
07yzfr1 04-04-2007, 07:55 PM I'll be checking mine tomorrow, thanks.

R1_yamaha 04-11-2007, 06:23 AM New bikes, new chain in general, will stretch in there first few hundred miles fast also because of front sprocket if it is with rubber rings to low noise effect.
blacknzr1 03-15-2008, 11:05 PM so when measuring the chain slack you pull it down then up and this is the measurment right? thats what i understand the manual to be, ud thing just lifting it up would be the measurment.
im measuring it behind the rearset.
true or not.
juiced gt 03-16-2008, 07:58 AM my swingarm is gouged aswell. time to replace another part yamaha couldnt get right.
All chains will stretch. OEM ones just a little more so, but even high end super duper chains will stretch in the first few hundred miles.:)
