I also have a 2000 r1. It will come up in 2nd no problem but is dependent on RPM range. I can't just roll on a wheelie with mine. I have to blip the throttle off and preload the suspension and then gas it on the rebound. Or clutch up which is not a problem at all. I am in the process of buying a new sprocket as well and I wouldn't recommend going one down in the front. The 2000's already have a small amount of teeth on the front sprocket compartaive to the newer bikes. You are going to get alot more engine noise going down up front. I would recommend going +2 in the rear as I am going to do. Get's the same results without the extra noise and wear involved with reducing the front sprocket.
