02 R1 Intake Temperature Sensor

I am looking for the intake temperature sensor (IAT) for an 2002 R1. My original problem is that my bike is running really rich and the idle was erratic. I am getting 86 miles per tank. I replaced the battery, spark plugs, and cleaned the air filer. I thought it was the wiring issue so, I caved and took the bike to the dealership. They told me the throttle position sensor (TPS) and my intake air temperature sensor were bad. I had them replace the TPS which fixed the idle problem, but the bike still runs rich. Now I'm going to replace the IAT but I can't find it anywhere to order it. I checked the dealer websites, spoke to dealers, and even called Yamaha. They don't have the IAT listed. They tell me to use the "pressure sensor" (part number 5JW-82380-00-00), which is square shaped. I'm looking for the cylindrical shaped sensor in the air box. Does anyone have any insight on this problem? I want to know the part number so I can order it. Sorry to write so much, but I figure if I tell the whole story someone might have insight as to why my bike is running rich. Right now, I want to replace the IAT.

I am having the same kind of trouble with my R1. My bike is running very bad at idle. It is hard to keep running. It wants to keep dieing. When I pulled the spark plugs out they were black and sooty. I replaced the plugs twice and still no fix. Please let me know if you figure out the problem. Joe

Replacing the TPS helped me. The idle is not as erratic, but I think I have a vacuum leak in the intake. I'm replacing one of the rubber seals (it was torn) on the air box that connect to the throttle body (I'll do that this week). Hopefully that should solve the problem. I'll let you know. Also if you have not do so, check adjust your idle speed when the bike is warmed up. It the idle is set to low while the bike will stall out when it gets to the operating temperature.

Thanks I will try the TPS sensor.

I disconnected the IAT sensor and my bike runs good now.
