Don't waste your time with Hayes, they seem to cover the simple stuff but refer you to a qualified shop for most other jobs. Get the factory manual on cd. I got mine off of ebay.

this might work for your bike. I have an 99 as well and have been using it for everything http://sports.racer.net/docs/yamaha_yzfr1_98_service_manual.pdf

I also have the Yamaha Workshop manual, but I find the Haynes manual invaluable for the photographs.

The haynes may have more photos to help. I just got done rebuilding the carbs because of my fuel leak using the yamaha pdf manual. Tool about 5 hours but finally got it done and man what a difference. If you are looking for a haynes manual I would either try ebay or amazon and you should be able to find one there.
