My 2007 R1 keeps getting up to 240+ when im stuck in traffic. I was told it could be due to the mods that ive done. Gravesfull system, smog block off plates, power commander, and ignition mod wit a custom map.

Jourdan_D 04-09-2007, 03:29 PM Yeah i had this happen to me because the ignition module if you have timing it makes the bike run hot as hell all my bike did this once i chaneg the ignition advance on it. the only thing that i found that help is to heat wrap the whole exhaust system. Should cost you about 50-60 bucks in the material and some of your time. JDollaz 04-19-2007, 09:57 AM Mine is Stock and Runs hot as Hell all the Time?????
What is Too Hot?????
Mine was at 225 Deg.
and my Friends 03 Gixxer Was @ 160.
and we both left the gas station at the same time and rode the same distance. When i stop at a light the thing Heats up even More...
I Can Only imagine what will happen this Summer!!!! chadder 04-19-2007, 04:12 PM You guys need to check your coolant level. My 07 was very low on coolant from the dealer. I havn't been able to ride much in hot weather since finding it so I'm not real sure if it has made much of a difference. It was about 3/4 of a quart low. mackjas 04-19-2007, 07:26 PM I’ve seen other posts on here that have said cutting or eliminating the cat resolved the heat issue. I’m in the market for a y-pipe, I just haven’t been able to locate a dealer or site that sells them. How would i do that???
I'm no Mechanic!! bugmn20 04-26-2007, 02:25 AM Im glad Im not the only one who has had this problem. Yesterday I was just riding around taking it easy (since the bike only has 170 miles on it and Im still trying to break it in), and when I parked it I turned off the key and the bike quickly rose to a temp of 248 degrees. The red temp warning light kicked on and I almost had a heart attack. I left the key on so that the fan could run, and it cooled quickly. I checked my coolant and it was about half way between the "low" and the "full" lines. Do I need to add some coolant? It was not a hot day, prob about 65 degrees and windy, so the bike was getting plenty of air. Just a note to anyone who responds, my bike is stock at this time. I do have the parts listed below, but am waiting until she is broke in to install them. Thanks for any replies JDollaz 04-26-2007, 06:56 AM Im glad Im not the only one who has had this problem. First off ..Nice Mods List, I'm on that track right now.
And you should worry too much, its because it has so few miles,
Once you break it in a bit, it shouldnt get that hot..
Mine runs 220+ all the time, but never has my red Over heat light ever come on???? So i would add coolant if i where you.
I'm thinking the same as you too, cuz its not even hot out yet and my bike makes me sweat. Imagine mid august in 100+ Temp. my OH light will be on at every red light ??????? stan1 04-26-2007, 07:19 AM Make sure your bike is not running Lean??? If so, it cause the bike to run hot. By the way what was your AFR?

??????????? on Both the LEAN, and AFR Please explain ???????????:dundun: MaJoR ChAoS 04-26-2007, 08:34 AM I live in Australia and our summer has just ended. I can assure you, you will ROAST in summer. I ride in shorts :D and it gets that hot that after only 30 mins riding you check your inside legs and they are RED literally. It feels like sunburn.
I developed a riding style that i sit close to the tank and hug the tank with my knees, it keeps your legs far enough from the engine that it isn't painful.
I have to say that the heat is My major gripe about the bike.
I had another major gripe that was the engine cutting off for no reason. Iv'e done 2600km now and the engine hasn't cut off for about 2 weeks now so hopefully that issue was just a running in thing. But i went for a ride one night (prior to the 1,000km or 600mile service) and everytime I pulled the clutch in the engine died... Happened at least 20 times on that ride and I was out in the middle of nowhere(country) probably no mobile service and was panicking i would be stranded :)
The fan kicks in at 107C don't know what that is in Fahrenheit, and drops the temp straight away. It only gets to 107c at lights so wasn't an issue even on really hot days.
Just the ambient heat radiating from the engine SUX big time. JDollaz 04-26-2007, 08:37 AM I live in Australia and our summer has just ended. I can assure you, you will ROAST in summer. Sunds Sh!tty, i Only Have stalled Once, and i Believe it was MY ERROR
at a Stop sign, i was gunna go to nuetral, but then i figured i'd roll to a stop
in first with the clutch down, and it either cut out as soon as i hit the clutch, or, i didnt pull the clutch in enough ???? But i think it was my fault??? stan1 04-26-2007, 09:07 AM My feeling is that dynos, and custom maps are easy to manipulate...lean it out for pretty numbers on a Dyno but on the street they fall on their face up top and running too lean, which cause them to run hot.... I had my zx-12r custom map in VA. He was trying to get the best HP (Which look good to me at the time), but in doing so, he lean the bike out to much. He lean it out to 14.2 AFR... Way to much, and my bike ran hot all the time.... This happen to me, because I did not know. But after learning and taking my bike to the right place in MD, my AFR on full power is 12.8 AFR, and cruising is 13.8 AFR. My runs cool.... 165 to 190. The stock R1 bike runs on cruise at 14.7 AFR, that's because emissions law, which makes the bike run hot. Hope this helps.
AIR/FUEL RATIO
Because the A/F ratio is a crucial factor in defining an engine's emissions, the engine-management system is of immense importance in determing exhaust
