The clutch on my 2001 r1 is starting to slip and I think it's time to replace the plates. I can't decide between after market or stock oem Yamaha. Anyone know if the Barnett or Grave's kits are better than the Oem kit? I'm not looking to ride the bike for track days, but would like the best parts for my dollar.

Did your kit come with the steel plate's? If not do these need to be replaced?

Im installing them now... and no. just the fibers... if they are warped you need to replace them..

99 and earlier models the steels dont warp like 04 do. plus there like 7 times more expensive than 04 up models. there is not one reason not to replace them on 04 up model if u put in fibers.. whole set is only like $16 far as plates.. in earlier models they are all pretty good. personally i would stick with OEM. 04 and up.. always use EOM.. plus there cheaper than aftermarket. i have stacks of used plates for my old 00 and my 04 R1. i have used barnett, graves and OEM.. personally i like and had better luck with Yamaha stuff. with older bikes it helps to have barnett SR# billet spring conversion kit.. its way nice and way better than diaphram spring thats in there. plus it helps them live longer

Thanks for the info guy's. I think I'm going to go with the barnett clutch plates. I found a kit on Ebay that includes all fiber and steel plates, springs, and new clutch cover gasket for 180. Is this a tough job? I handle all of my normal maintinance, but have never swaped a clutch before.

Thanks dude. I can't stand paying shops to do something that can be easily done myself. If the stock parts are just as good and cheaper, I'll go that route. You live in Houston by chance?
