I purchased a 99 r1 about 500 miles ago and after riding for a while the bike started leaking fuel. I raised the gas tank while the bike was running and found the leak to be coming from the float chamber air vent hose holder with runs a vacuum to the carbuerators in cylinder 1-2 and then 3-4. I have replaced the float chamber air vent hose holder and the vacuum lines and Im still getting a leak from the exact same spot. Can anyone direct to fixing this problem as it just started. The bike starts and idle great and runs fine but is just leaking fuel from this spot. Andrew

If fuel is coming from the float chamber vent hose, it sounds like a float chamber needle valve is sticking. However, if this were the case I would not expect it to idle/run nicely.

If fuel is coming from the float chamber vent hose, it sounds like a float chamber needle valve is sticking. However, if this were the case I would not expect it to idle/run nicely. When I start the bike it starts right up and seems to be idling fine. I haven't riden it because of the fuel leaking. If the float chamber needle valve is sticking what is the cure to fixing the problem?

It appears now to be fixed. After talking to the Yamaha Dealer, they said that the float chambers are probably full and the carbs need to be rebuilt. I wasn't interested in doing that at this time so I drained the float chambers and added some seafoam to the gas tank to clean the fuel system. Right now no leaks when bike is heated up but I will deffinately keep my eye on it.

It was the float valve needles sticking causing excess fuel to build up in the floats. Pulled the carbs off and cleaned everything and put it back together and WOW!!! The response is so much better. Thanks for your help and ideas as the leak is now gone :)
