dtmcnamara 04-18-2007, 04:52 PM Been looking all over the net. Buddy has a 07 R1 and we are trying to change the shift light on the damn thing. Figured it would be hold both buttons turn ignition on and there ya go, just lik the 06, but no.
I told my friend to read the owners manual and he swears he has and it isnt working. Can someone help me out so when I see him tonight I can fix it so he will shut the hell up.
THANKS in advance
David T. McNamara

Russian Rocket 04-18-2007, 09:09 PM it tells you how to change the shift light in the owners manual that came with the bike. just letting you know if you need any in depth details
R1Phrankey 04-18-2007, 11:01 PM Have the same problem with my 07 R1.
Shift light can not be changed. I have read the manual, but that doesn''t work out. All other functions are OK, but it is not possible to get into the mode for changing shift light and light strength, etc.
My dealer has checked it also. We have swapped the complete cluster with one from a brand new R1 and it still doesn't work.
It seems to be a problem in the ECU.
We now have a warranty going out to Yamaha and I am waiting for their reaction. I expect to receive a new ECU.

Let us know if that fixes/helps with the lag issue.
You can't change it on the race ECU. Wouldn't it suck if you just shipped away a perfectly good race ECU? ;)

I have an European version. We do not have a lag issue here. I am sorry that I cannot help you with that.

A race ECU has some other problems for road use: instead of bikespeed on your meter you will see the motor temperature, etc.
Oh believe me... I'm well aware of what the race ECU and harness do. ;) I was only joking about it being a race ECU.

read your manual
and for those who say they cant change their shift light on the stock ecu are either mentaly/ physicaly incapable or there is an actual problem with the bike because i have changed my brightness and rpm at which the light comes on at, i have even changed it between the 3 different shift light variations, solide light, slow blinking and fast blinking.

Actually there are only 2 different shift light variations. Solid, and Fast Blinking. The "Slow Blinking" (1 blink every 2 seconds) deactivates the shift light all together.

Believe me: there is a problem in the bike. We have tried it many times at my bike, without success. We have also tried it at 3 other 2007 R1's at my local dealer, and at all 3 we were able to adjust it.
Then, we changed the meter unit from an other bike with my bike, and the problem was still there. Therefore, our conclusion was that the problem should be located in the ECU. My local dealer has contacted Yamaha on this and Yamaha is now working on this call. My only expectation is that I will receice a new ECU.
MEMPHIS R1 04-19-2007, 11:24 PM well i hope all works out for you with the ECU. i didnt get a manuel with my bike so this thread just tought me how to change it so thanks.
R1 MASTER 04-20-2007, 12:05 AM MEMPHIS R1,
If you have an 03 R1, the procedure for changing "Instrument and Control Functions" is different than the 07 R1.
Here is a link so you can see how to change yours.
Click Here (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/service/viewmanuals/viewmanuals.aspx?ls=sport)
On the drop down list choose 2003, Motorcycle, YZF-R1, then click the link that says "Click here to open the manual". It is under section "Instrument and Control Function" I believe pages 31-32

i did it the same way last night and it worked, but thanks for the manuel.
R1Phrankey 05-01-2007, 02:10 AM Last weekend my ECU was replaced by the dealer. Problem solved. Now it is possible to adjust the shift light !
So, my suggestion: go to your dealer and replace the ECU under warranty.
